Well only 17 days to go to :)
The first part is out on the 19 but what of part 2 and 3?
What do you reckon will be the release dates, If all 3 where filmed at the same time I take it that 2 and 3 must also be finished or near as . Are we going to have to wait a year before the 2 towers or are they going to release it a couple of months later after fotr and make the most of the media hype surrounding the first part.
Then you have the dvd releases no doubt these films will get a top dvd releases but you will be faced with do I buy each part on its own or wait for all 3 to be released and get the boxset(of which I am sure there will be). Or maybe they will hold of the dvd/vhs releases until all 3 have been release at the flicks first.
Knowing us mugs we will buy all 3 on there own and then buy the super edition box as well ;)

Although they're pretty much finished in terms of all the actors, I think the fx still need to be done quite a bit fr the two towers and return of the king. They'll be out Xmas 2002 and Xmas 2003... :) Then, I hope they make the Hobbit aswell!
We discussed this a lot at home (as there is a year between the films for post-production and SFX, yes). I think we'll buy them individually and then as a boxset when they're done if they have anything extra or the box is nice :-)
It's a waste of money, yes, but we'll sell them on and by that time we'll have had lots of pleasure watching them all (I'm sure) - besides, we can't wait 3-4 years for the DVDs and that's our bottom line!

Maybe we should wait and see if we actually like it first? I'm sure it'll be gerat, but you never know... :)

You mean I have to wait another YEAR for two Towers:eek:
Why I am on the subject could someone explain to me what on earth Liz Tyler (Arwen) has to with Lotr. I have just re-read the first 2 books and I am on now the third (its been about 15yrs since I last read all 3) and I know there is a brief mention of her in the fellowship but going by the trailer for it it seems she is playing a much bigger part than was written in the book, I do hope they haven't butchered the film just to add some hollywood love scenes.
She has a section in appendix section which could be included, + I think he(strider) does meet her during his journey (its been 10yrs sence ive read it so i could be wrong)

it'd certainly make sense from a marketing point of view to release the DVD of Fellowship a few months before Two Towers to raise interest and awareness again

I really hope not, although as long as it keeps it's name here I don't mind. What will they re-name it to "The middle bit"? "Sauron Strikes back"? To go with the "Return of the King" ;)

if the picture and sound quality match the trailers included on the Rush Hour 2 disc, then by god the LOTR DVD will look ad sound lip smackingly gorgeous!! -- i even thought i was watching a PAL image, it was that good!! and imagine what DTS will be like!!
started to watch it last night at a friends house on a vcd, It looked so good I stopped watching so as not to spoil it for the 19th.

IIRC, some interview i read said that Arwen was "fleshed out" into a more prominent character for the film due to the lack of strong female characters in the story (presumably arising from Tolkien's misogynistic tendencies). Makes sense if you ask me, plus early impressions from ppl who've read the books seem very enthusiastic

So long as the picture quality and sound are up to the mark, I'll be getting the dvd's as they come out, not really bothered about extras so not fussed if they release a boxset later.

I read somewhere a while back that they will be releasing the standard editions first, then when all 3 have been and gone at the cinema they will bring out a boxset that will be directors cuts which will be fleshed out with extra scenes to make the films fit an older audience. I think there was mention of more violence in battle scenes etc?
If this is true I will get the standards and the boxset.
Oh, and yes, the films are out each xmas: 2001, 2002, 2003
