Is the 60th Anniversary Edition (R1) the definitive version to own?

I don't want to buy this and then find I should have waited for a better version.

Also can anyone tell me what the commentaries and other extras are like on this disc?

It's supposed to be pretty darn amazing...but while we're on the topic, no online store I've seen seems to still be listing the "War of The Worlds"-related bonus material as being part of this disc anymore...was that an earlier error in the advertising or is it really there, and what does it actually consist of?

If by definitive you mean probably the best picture and sound quality seen on this film since its launch and an award winning commentary (Roger Ebert) and a commentary by a friend of Welles (Peter Bogdanovich) and a superb two hour documentary on the controversy caused by Citizen Kane then this is probably the best you are going to get.
It's difficult to say if WB will bring this out in the UK (don't even know if they own the rights) but I don't think it will beat this release (bar PAL picture resolution (and ensuing PAL/NTSC arguments ;))).

Believe me you will not be disappointed with this release at all.:D

(Oh, the War of the Worlds referred to is a short clip in the documentary to go along with the background to the transmission and the controversy it caused. Unfortunately it is not the full recording:( )

It is an excellent Two Disc edition, and shows what WB can do when they put their mind to it.

It's a fantastic set and one of the few DVDs where I have made the effort to watch all of the extras. It comes in special edition packaging (not the usual snapper that Warners use) and would be in my personal top 5 DVDs of the last 3-4 months.

Indeed, what higher accolade does it require after reaching my top 5 of the last 3-4 months? :D
