Holy Grail permanent subtitiles glitch - replacement?

On cheapo players and my Hollywood Plus, the subtitles come on at the start of most chapters, and won't go away!

i have minolta tesco thing. watched some parts with subs on, the haven't come on themselves and havn't seen no flashing so far.
