View Full Version : sky + phone line question pls?
hi guys
according to sky they require their sky + customers to have the digbox connected to a phone line for 12 months for box office, pay per view etc!
some one told me that if i un plug the phone line then i will charged £21 everytime i do this by sky..is this true?
as my sky box is upstairs and i do not want the hassle of having to fit cabling through house etc!
thanks
You'll be charged, never heard a price of £21 tho, IF they find you haven't got it connected within the first 12 months. More than likely you'll get a letter first, or a call saying they will terminate your account
My only guess on the £21 charge is that it is crossed wires.
On a single box account I think (as said) they hasstle you with a letter threatening disconnection from the service if you don't plug it back in. If you don't you may well end up getting disconnected. You will also not be able to order box office and pay per view.
In a multiroom (multibox) account I think they are far quicker to crack down on you to prevent you from moving the box to a different house. They may well charge you for two single subscriptions rather than 1 main subscription + 1 mirror subs (maybe that is where the £21 comes in)

Normally you'll get a warning letter - if you then don't connect, they'll charge you the full price for the box as you only get the discount price by agreeing to the connection.
If you have multi-room then the 12 month rule dosen't apply and both boxes have to be connected all the time - iof they're not after the 12 month's then Sky will charge full price for both subs (under 12 month's and they'll charge full price for the boxes too), rather than £10 for one of them.
BTW the engineers won't install Sky or Sky+ if they can't connect to a telephone socket anyway, but they will route the cable for you.
so basically you have to be connected to a phone line for 12 months..if for the last 2 years you have been a sky digital cutomer then is this 12 month period waived or does it start once again fresh when you purchase a sky + box?
thank you
I've been led to believe from customer services that if you were a suscriber for 12 months before getting sky+, then they wont check the line for the 12month period once you get sky+ even though its a new contract as it shows you have been a customer for more than 12 months already:)
This is due to me moving housing with still 4 months left on the sky+ contract, and sky wasn't allowed at the new address so at first customer services just told me to write to head office to sort it out. But I rang up and go through to someone different who changed me to the cheapest package (£13ish a month) and told me it is fine and to just phone up and cancel in August. So hopefully it will be fine, as I disconnected the phone line last week and packed away the sky box :D

Starts a fresh - did for me last October. My box is connected, but I still got a letter as their system wasn't picking it up.
