View Full Version : Star Trek TNG
Anybody have any more information about the Star Trek The Next Gernation DVD's released next year.
www.dvd.co.uk have them at 69.99 but have no information.
R2-DVD.org said Paramount were going to issue a press release this week, but failed to do so. Guess we're going to have to wait a bit longer for the details. :(
This is whatDVD Review.net (http://www.dvdreview.net/dvdreview/content/newsfull1.ez?REF=646) have this to say on TNG.
Selectively quoting from the DVD Review article:
" .... they could well be following as fast as two-month intervals.
At the time of writing the price of the boxset is still to be confirmed, but we would expect it to be about the same as the seven-disc X-Files boxsets, namely £89.99. ".
That's a heck of lot of money to be spending every couple of months if true. I'd rather wait at least 4 months between sets for that reason alone. Anyhow, 89.99 is a bit much to ask given the money Paramount have made from syndication and foreign sales of this series. Both they and Fox should be subsidising boxsets a heck of a lot more, as how much does it really cost to produce say 7-discs over a 2-disc set? Not a lot more I bet, and certainly not the price they're asking. :(

Does anyone know how many episodes on each disc? Then you could work out whether the price is on the expensive side.

This is more suited to the software forum at the moment.

The price is the same RRP as the X-Files Season boxsets.
Season 1 NG was 26 episodes (X-Files was 24) so it should be 4 episodes per disc, with 2 episodes + extras on the 7th disc. (so £3.46 an episode, X-Files is £3.74 an episode, also the season release is a lot cheaper than other types of releases. ie. stargate and farscape)

I hope they release the feature length episode separately! I'd love to just get Best of Both Worlds and All Good Things...

That's a very good point actually! I can't remember off hand which stories were originally shown as feature length, but when they were later put out as two-parters material was edited to take account of the extra opening and closing titles. Hope they bear that in mind and give us the full feature length versions.
Deaks.
Only the very first TNG ep "Encounter at Farpoint" and the very last, "All Good Things" were ever broadcast feature length, and consequently were trimmed a bit when broken into two parts for the extra credits and the "previously on TNG..." bit. All the others, including "Best of Both Worlds" were always two parters, although they have been released on VHS as stitched together feature lengths, which of course involves removing material (the "previously on TNG...") and requiring fiddling with the music score across the stitch.

Exactly why they won't do that - to get them you are going to have to buy both seasons 3+4 (I think they were?) equalling lots of dosh for Paramount.
I am really looking forward to these sets - commentaries from Patrick Stewart and Jon Frakes on their favourite episodes plus DD 5.1 sound - should be really good!!!!

Still, i would like to have Best of Both Worlds on a single DVD on it's own with special features.

Just saw this on the Digital Bits website:
"Paramount has confirmed that the Star Trek: The Next Generation: Season One - Collector's Edition will arrive on DVD in March. The 7-disc set will include all 26 episodes of the show's first season, along with more than 2 hours worth of cast & crew interviews and rare behind-the-scenes footage (much of which has never been seen before). "
No mention of an official pricing structure as yet, but if Paramount release R1, R2 and R4 at the same time, I'll bet the latter will be the cheaper option assuming the exchange rate doesn't change too much by then.

If they get released on R4, there has been nothing mentioned about a release here yet.
At an online chat about 4 weeks ago with R4 distributors, the question was asked about Star Trek:TOS and Star Trek:TNG on dvd and the answer no plans to release either in Australia at the moment.
No doubt Paramount will take at least a year or two to decide whether to release the discs in Australia given their normal slow pace of releasing old material. :(
