View Full Version : Which is the jewel of your collection?
For me, it's my special edition of Piranha - a film which I was certain would never come out on DVD, but did in an edition which is wonderful in every way, from the crystal clear picture and sound to the fact every special feature is splendidly entertaining and worthwhile. Hooray!
Fight CLub and Se7en R1. Two great packages. They're the two i'd pull from a burning house.
Along with the aforementioned Fight Club & Se7en I have to add:
The Abyss
T2:UE
and all Critereon discs:D
Probably my Robocop Criterion and my Anchor Bay Suspiria and Opera, Ltd edition:)
Leon: The Professional Version Intergrale
the finest film ever to bless a digital format

if i had to pick just one it would be my Akira SE Tin R1
All my Kevin Smith films, but if I had to choose one, it would be Dogma 2 Disc SE.
I dont really have any DVDs that are better than others, so I'd have to say my Buffy sets :D

The two I would grab when runing out of the burning house would be Contact and The Fifth Element - Superbit. I really enjoy these two.
Cheers

After thinking about it, and going along with my response in the Citizen Kane thread, my jewel would be the 60th Anniversary Edition of Citizen Kane.
Brazil - Criterion had it over a year and just startin to get a run on it but heck is it a different film from what I thought it was !
Fantasia - Still workin this one out, not what I remember from the pictures as a kid.
North by Northwest - Simplicity/perfection/paranoia.
Although the quality isn't the best I still feel that Koyaanisqatsi is one of my favourites. Although the coolest would be the french "Arnold-box" with a pic of the terminator with a blinking red eye... very nice :)

Probably my Stanley Kubrick collection, but that's cheating.
If I were to name just one then I'd say that it was Rear Window, my favourite film of all time and a very good DVD too.

I own a lot of cracking dvds but I'd have to say the jewel of my collection is Dude Where's My Car
Gotta go with clerks myself. As much as I like Smith's other films. I find myself able to watch this over and over again. Good commentary too as well as a cool music video and interesting ifnot particularly funny deleted scenes.
Godfather box set
The Sopranos season 1 and 2
T2:UE
Robocop Criterion
Life Of Brian Criterion

Based purely on the number of repeat viewings it would have to be the following in my collection.
The Iron Giant R1
Galaxy Quest R1
Titan AE R1
Rush: Chronicles R1
On technical merit and overall package.
T2:UE R1
Fight Club R1
The Abyss SE R1

Good showing from Mr. Cameron there. I wonder how heavily he gets involved with the DVD releases.

Probably the Japanese R2 boxset of 'Blood:The last vampire'
would have to be my 'Jewel' for reasons of the price i paid for it and it's status as being long OOP.
On a level of being a 'jewel' for reasons of material content then my 'Decalogue' boxset would fit into this category.

The Beyond Ltd ed tin, Akira tin , Criterion Long Good Friday
and R2 Brother with Takeshi Kitano ( a really suprisingly cool film that I hadn't heard of before I got the disc )
I guess it would be the French Collector's Edition 2-Disc version of Crying Freeman.
Really great design and good double DVD case. It's got a book with it too. Although I don't speak French the 2nd disc is great as well.
I do have Le Pacte des Loups 3 DVD Collector's Edition but since this movie isn't viewable yet ( no subtitles ) I cannot call it the best. It's a great package though...
