It would seem that there are plans in motion for Michael Bay to direct the on-off-on again I am Legend project with Will Smith in the lead role.

Arnie was linked ot this project for years, with a number of directors but it never got made. The book has been made into a film twice before - most recently in the seventies with Charlton Heston in The Omega Man.

Theres a report on Aint it Crap News from a few weeks ago that were just rumours:-

And at the Ali news conference in New York yesterday, Will Smith confirmed it was one of the films he was looking at currently agreeing to star in. Which elevates it to more than just mere rumours at this stage...

Personally I think Will would be great for the role, by all accounts he is superb in the upcoming Ali so no probs there.
Michael Bay - many people hate him and his techniques but I have quite enjoyed many of his movies in a popcorn sort of way, but I think unless he changes his style for this movie(and in the report it is stated that he would do) it would be a bad choice..

But then again, it might be theonly way to see this movie made at all....

So, any other opinions out there?

sorry for taking over your thread a bit here but whats Ali like ?

I've heard some really good things about the film

Whats the acting, story etc like ?

I have high hopes because i highly regard Michael Mann's work and if anyone can make a decent actor out of Will Smith its him

Not seen it yet, but the advance word is that Will Smiths performance is A+....

Suppose we'll have to wait a little longer to find out....

Saw the trailer for Ali and was not at all convinced by the snippets of Smith that I saw.

Both him and Michael Bay are not suited to I Am Legend. Superficially an apocalypse/vampire story, Matheson’s novel at heart posits some fascinating questions about the extinction of a species and IMO neither artiste has the range or depth for director and star of this project.

I only hope that Warners don’t take this upcoming remake as an excuse to prolong the release of Omega Man, surely the most postponed DVD in the format’s short history.
