The most recent 3d stuff I've seen is Spy Kids 3d and when I watched it - I kept thinking that would be amazing as a game.

I really hope Nintendo does go for the full 3d effect with glasses.

Remember some movies will be filmed and released in 3d in next few years - so 3d is coming back!

If they do it right - the PS3 and Xbox360 could seem old tech soon after launch.

Nintendo would be slitting their wrists to incorporate any type of pseudo (and that's all it could be) 3D. It would be a gimmick a and nothing more.

Not keen on the touchscreen 'virtual' controller rumour either.:( Still I'll buy one anyway.:D

It would be a gimmick unless they do it very, very well. Anyway I doubt this 'Revolution' is going to be a 3D thing. If it is, and Ninty DOESN'T do it very, very well then two words come to mind: Virtual Boy.

And anyway it's Spong. I'd never rely on them for info.

would be cool, but it's only a rumour, and even worse it's from SPONG! Rumours tends to be what they're based on!

Inovation overhaul

The problem with true 3D is that media is made to be seen from a certain angle/perspective. The camera always leads you to determine mood and character from small "innuendo" or facial expression - miss one and the whole thing loses context and just devolves into a complete hashed up mess!

there was a 3D TV on the gadget show on Bravo yesterday. No special glasses requierd. 32" LCD TV and occording to the presenter it really did work and looked great. Be a long time before we get those and special programming I guess.. plus I'm not sure I'd want to walk into a room to find that horse from House Doctor projecting herself into the middle of the lounge whilst the wife sits there boggle eyed at some stupid house decorating program.

I agree with Ono - if the list on Spong is anything to go by, I won't be getting the Revolution - that sort of thing just doesn't interest me me.

If the above is true, Nintendo will really try to "push" developers to use this new feature which will just cause them to walk away, or worse, end up with ****poor games like Ridge Racer DS with the new "innovation of the week" shoe-horned in...

I trust that report as far as I could throw Brian Blessed, but either way I think we could do without any more unnovations right now... Move towards the X-Box 1 / 2 with HDD storage, downloadable content and a proper online play system first.

ahhh the virtual boy. Fun for 10 minutes then it gave you a headache.

Still, you've gotta applaud them for trying these things instead of churning out the same old same old *cough sony cough*

3d is a big passion of mine i have loads of 3d films including friday the 13th part 3 in field sequential. so i may look in to this console saying its 3d. It has to be field sequential to be true 3d i dont want that anagylith red cyan rubbish. :)

But will it be as good as the stereogram mode on Magic Carpet?

Agreed, if Nintendo provide online play and DLC I'll consider that a Revolution.

Revolution lead tester says he was very impressed after 10 minutes of staring at the screen.

Ah! That doesn't interest me in the slighest - I'm still scarred by the whole online "experience" by my time as an XBox Live beta-tester :(

Hated it with a passion - being screeched at and called a "mofo be-atch" by yanks whose balls clearly hadn't dropped wasn't much fun - plus I really don't think our broadband is good enough for it yet, due to the limited upload rates.

All I really want from the Revolution is:

1) Backward compatibility with Cube games
2) Wavebirds with rumble feature
3) VGA Out
4) And bottom of my list, but number one priority - excellent games :)

Added later: also priced at no more than £100 over here - none of this frantic price cutting a few months later due to slow sales. I paid £299 for my XBox then it dropped to £199 shortly after (MS did provide some freebie games though to those who paid £299). Not paying that sort of money again!

to be honest I'm not even fussed about it being backwards compatible, it's not like I'm going to get rid of my cube, I can still play them on that.

puddleduck
27-04-2005, 11:23
Not sure you're right about backward compatibility - I've already got 2 Cubes and can't see me ever parting with them. But thats not really the issue...

For non-Cube owners this would be a great feature - so many good games out there already!

I found for the DS backward compatibility was a great feature - being able to play GBA ttles such as "Zelda: Minish Cap" on a DS is really good - people moan about there not being many DS games, but they forget there is already a library of 1000's of GBA titles already available!

Backward Compatibility will hopefully mean that consumers can find enough titles to play as I suspect that, as with most console launches, there will be a release drought at first.

hadn't thought about it like that but at the same time I doubt there were many people buying ps1 games to play on their ps2s.

resident evil,enough said ;)

tekken,bested only by streetfighter imho

pro evo soccer, obviously not as polished as the newer releases but it still had the magic.

wipeout, the first and possibly the best.

thats 5 games that made a quantum leaps in gaming history

im quite looking forward to seeing what leaps the revolution makes.

You'd be about 2-3 when the PS1 came out !?

The PS1 was great when it appeared and had loads of quality games.Looking back now they might not seem so good but that can be said for most consoles.

I did like playing the odd game on the PS1, I do agree there were some good/great ones.
Spyro was one of my fave games. (low in the list though)

Just when you compare the amount of great games to how many there are on Gamecube it's quite a bit less. But then agian PS1 had hundreds and hundreds of games, Gamecube has a couple/few hundred.

so your comparing a cube to a ps1 :cuckoo: and id still say there was a few more games on the ps1 that revoloutionised gaming compared to what the cube has done.
