I'm sure this question has been posted before, bnut given the choice, what would you buy and why? PC, XBOX or Playstation2?
Online gaming interests me, therefore I'm thinking PC or XBOX would be best, but I'm aware that PS2 is probably best in terms of games available. Against the PC is the fact that it wouldn't connect to my tele, I'd be stuck away in some other room somewhere.

All of them.

PC for pc games, xbox for xbox games and a ps2 for ps2 games

If you want to play PC games in your living room, get an Xbox.

I only ever played on consoles until getting my PC upgraded for Half Life 2 late last year. Now that I'm used to playing high res games I struggle playing on the Xbox / PS2 as the picture is low res and just seems out of focus in comparison. Also FPS's just suck on consoles.

So I'd go for PC until the next gen consoles are out and you have a decent plasma screen.

PC:
+ Almost a generation ahead in graphics.
+ Online play is as convenient as your own internet connection.
- Expensive to have the latest hardware to play the latest games well.
- PC games don't conveniently work as soon as you put the disc in -- installation and optimisation can be a nightmare.
- Limited to mostly realistic/tactical/war games.

Xbox:
+ Technically best console of this generation: better graphics, hard drive, etc.
+ This is the best year of the Xbox's life, with lots of great games.
+ Xbox Live is a convenient unified way of playing Xbox games online
- But Xbox Live costs £40 a year.
- By the end of this year, the Xbox will be surpassed by the Xbox 360, and games will cease to be made for it.

PS2:
+ Large back-catalogue of games in every genre.
+ Online play doesn't cost money.
- Really showing its age in terms of power.
- Online games are not unified by a single service, which is annoying and prevents good communities from being created.

Eh? All sorts of games available on PC, but I'd say the main genre it's just lacking in is 2-player Beat 'Em Up.

- But Xbox Live costs £40 a year.
This is usally available much cheaper isn't it, what with the constant flow of cheap starter packs?

[PS2]

What's the average amount of players playing PS2 games online? I assumed it would be really low, but I haven't seen any stats for thsi yet?

recently purchased an x box and i am delighted with the gaming experience particularly Halo 2 and Fifa.

I do have a failr new PC and the graphics are far greater than the xbox however playability is slightly lacking on some games.

x box live is fantastic and I regularly play agaonst my friends - great laugh with the headset, however laterly have been on the pc quite a bit for games like Football Manager 2005 etc etc.

X box - Great for Arcade, Shoot em up, Sports Games

PC - Great for strategy, war games...

buy both!
