Im rather surprised at Sony doing this...

Game giant Sony is opening its own market where players will be able to buy and sell virtual goods.
The Sony Station Exchange will open in late June and will let EverQuest players buy and sell in-game cash, magical items and characters.

The move is a surprise because for the last six years Sony has battled to stop the trade in game items and characters.

Sony said it was taking the move to help stamp out fraudulent sales of game gear.

Sorry if this has been mentioned in another thread already, I had a quick look but never saw it anywhere.

"Can't be assed to play our balls game? Buy your way to the end game"

Quite shocking that this is being made "acceptable" by a big name company in the area. Looks like Sony's greed got the best of them, can't be losing out on all that money going to e-bay. Hopefully other folks won't follow suit on this one.

I'd hate to see this in WoW. Its bad enough having to pay a sub every month, never mind having to buy your virtual items with real cash if you want to stand a chance :/

Sony is planning to set up new servers for EverQuest II that will be "exchange enabled" meaning items, characters and cash on them will be tradeable.

So at least its new servers and not breaking the servers folk are playing on already.
