Out today in Japan, got mine on preorder at Yes Asia (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://global.yesasia.com/assocred.asp^QS^LU83C65N)

Really looking forward to this one, anyone else got it ordered?

I'm tempted by it, but just realised I've not turned on my DS for 6 weeks - its starting to go the same way as my PSP in that I just don't use it...!

I haven't read much about this game, but is this like Yoshi's Touch and Go where there is no story and progression in levels

I got bored of Yoshi in a week, but still do enjoy the multiplayer

I guess there isn't any level structure.. I'm guessing it plays like that old PC series of games Dogz + Catz.

i'm really tempted by this, but looking at all the screenshots the sheer amount of japanese text would do my nut in! any update on a US/UK release date yet?

i sort of agree with this, but people like tamagotchi's though so it should do well, not interested myself (yet!) probably due to hating dogs (any animal really, cats are far more scary).

Its like Dogz for the PC but with a bit more depth to it (going for walks ect) and voice commands. I saw a demo at GDC of a Nintendo rep teaching a dog to roll over on command, and to react to its name. It looked really cool when the dog started to react to the commands. Though I'm not sure it would be anything more then a novelty for me. But for fans of this kind of thing it looks brilliant.

What more do you need!?

Not sure if I'd really trust a Japanese magazine review for this sort of game?

I hope this doesn't sound Xenophobic, but the Japanese really like this sort of game (witness them going ga-ga over "Tamagotchi") while the rest of the world seem pretty unfazed by them?

FAQS for the game can be found at http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/ds/game/926848.html and http://upl.silentwhisper.net/uplfolders/upload1/Nintendogs_FAQ.txt so they should come in handy what with it being a Japanese game. I'm tempted on getting this myself too. :)

Well Famitsu have never given a game like this a perfect score before. Their past perfect scores have been Ocarina of Time, Vagrant Story, Wind Waker and Soul Calibur. Not a tamagotchi in sight.

Ordered this and it arrived at work and played it for a hour and love it :D

I chose the chihuahua edition and got a white Lab.
Called him Tony, and he know's sit, paw, his name, jump and waggle butt!

I took him for 2 walks and went shopping and got a frisbee.
The walking is good you get to plan your walk and it's fairly good!

There is a lot of Japanese text but I've found my way around easily enough and not looked at FAQ's etc yet!

how are you guys getting on with Nintendogs - this "game" absolutely fascinates me - any language issues? Is it as good as people say? Selling like hot cakes over in Japan...

Just read about this at IGN,

http://ds.ign.com/articles/606/606614p1.html

Can't wait for this, really does look like a must have title. Talk about innovation. Anyone know a release date?

puddleduck
28-04-2005, 14:53
Release date is June over here I think - maybe thats the US version, but that'll be cheaper anyhow.

I'm over in the US in June so may stock up on some DS games while over there :) Hate paying £30 over here - no portable game is worth that..

Theres lots of Japanese text but you learn your way around and I haven't occurred any problems so far.
MY pooch now knows sit, beg, paw, jump and wag tail.
He's been on 5 walks, tried one disk competition and came 2nd.
I also found a bubble blower toy, blow in the mic to blow bubbles at the dog!
Loving the game so far and only played for couple hours so far. (Had since yesterday but only just got home from school today)
:)
Also - I didn't look at any FAQ's, no-one told me how to navigate etc, and I'm 13 so it goes to show how easy to understand this game is with no japanese language knowledge :)

Selling like hot cakes over in Japan.

Yeah the final numbers are even better then first expected as well:

Media Create 18th - 24th of April:

Software:-

1. PS2 Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song - Square Enix - 217,000 (new)
2. NGC Fire Emblem: Souen no Kiseki - Nintendo - 102,000 (new)
3. NDS Naruto 3 for DS - Tomy - 84,000 (new)
4. NDS nintendogs: Shiba and friends - Nintendo - 83,000 (new)
5. NDS nintendogs: Dachs and friends - Nintendo - 53,000 (new)
6. NDS nintendogs: Chihuahua and friends - Nintendo - 46,000 (new)
7. PS2 Baseball L!ve 2005 - Namco - 44,000 (new)
8. GBA Rockman Zero 4 - Capcom - 38,000 (new)
9. PS2 Gundam: One Year War - Bandai - 30,000 (234,000)
10. PSP Shutokou Battle - Genki - 29,000 (new)

Nintendogs sold 182,000 in its first 4 days making it the fastest selling DS game by a clear 60,000 copies. This was before the Famitsu review even hit the streets. Fire Emblem for GC also sold very well (102,000 in 4 days) as did Naruto 3 for DS (84,000).

Hardware:-

DS 96,191
PS2 33,080
PSP 33,004
GBASP 10,820
GC 8,329
GBA 422
Xbox 112

DS outsold every other peice of hardware combined!

I am really scratching my head over this one...

Whya re the console boys all creaming themselves at playing a complex tamagotchi?

I've seen the reviews and videos... throw frisbees give dog simple commands... pland and take it for a walk...

seriously what is the attraction and why should I buy it?

Sounds to me like the usual quirky japanese games like Girlfriend simulators and stuff now maybe one of those would be better .. Nintengirlz hehe... thats it fetch me a beer... now sit... stip... let me wash you down with bubles.. etcetc

it'd seell a million :)

Teasy

Because its a new experience, especially for a handheld. It offers unparalled interaction with a virtual pet that sits in the palm of your hand, plus it just has that Nintendo touch to it. I'm not normally interested in these kinds of games (never liked Pokemon at all, quite the opposite) but I'm getting interested in this one.

Deano
28-04-2005, 16:57
Naruto also sold extremely well (102,000 in 4 days).

Off topic but any-one know anywhere with info on the Naruto game?

Teasy
28-04-2005, 17:01
Deano

IGN have some screenshots here:

http://ds.ign.com/objects/695/695661.html

But I've got no idea where to find any English reviews or hands on reports.

BTW just to correct my mistake there it was Fire Emblem for GC that sold 102,000. Naruto sold 84,000, still very good for 4 days on DS though.

There is another guide on Game Faqs and it basically translates everything in english. Make sure you have encoding switched on to Japanese which you can do by selecting Shift-JIS in your browser so the Japanese text parts view correctly. Right that's it, after viewing that guide I'm going to definitely order it now me thinks. :)

Edit: I'd do a direct link to the guide, but it doesn't seem to let me but you can find it on http://www.gamefaqs.com and just do a search for nintendogs.

Well I'm loving my copy.

Tony the white Lab has been on many walks, got plenty toys and stuff, Knows tricks including Sit, Paw, Beg, Chase tail, Wag tail, lie down and roll over.
He's won a few competitions and helped me get upto Y500, 000 Which is enough to upgrade the flat/bit your in.
He has been on many walks, met many dogs, played with many toys.

Also a couple days ago he got a house mate, Charlie the beagle.

Charlie doesn't know much yet but is learning.

This game's brilliant!

Not picking on you or anything, but where do you work? My sister's 15 and can't find any employment till she's 16.

Back on topic, she's a huge fan of Dogz on the PC and this game looks like reason enough to buy a DS.

I don't work yet.
Might be after reading Budges post about him being at work not being able to play it.

First English Nintendogs review (that I've seen anyway):

http://www.honestgamers.com/systems/content.php?console_id=52&review_id=3679

Rating - 9 - Outstanding

The majority of games simply aren't this good. It stands aside from the crowd and you'd be crazy to miss it

This sounds interesting but I don't like dogs but I do love a good gimmicky game. If I get bored of treating the dog well will it die from neglect if you don't feed it?

Anyone know a site with pictures of all 15 dogs so I can pick the game that I like?

Each version has all the dogs apparently...they can all be unlocked throughout the game.

Heh I was reading an old preview copy of the DS of Nintendo Official Magazine (I collect them)
And under the graphics description it said "Miles ahead of any N64 game and manages to top most Gamecube games"

Are they on Crack? The DS's graphics are about equal, sometimes worse, sometimes better than the N64 (Depending on Game obviously)

I wonder what Nintendogs would look like on the N64, probably a little worse.

Gave my dog the name "Bontempi" verbally; later when you input the dog's name, it only allows 8 characters - a bit annoying that it doesn't warn you to give it a short name at the outset

MetalGearAl

I've counted how many letters are needed for "Bontempi" 4 times now, and each time I come up with the answer 8. Am I missing something?

Yeah its a cool game, love it!

If you download the latest patch for the Datel Action Replay GBA/DS there is a save game for Nintendogs which gives you a choice of all dogs on the same cartridge, i think there is 13 to choose from!
