View Full Version : [Megadrive] Sonic question
The wife is currently playing the original version of Sonic on the xbox. She doesn't get on with all this new spangled stuff like 3D, hence the original version of Sonic.
Now, she reckons it used to let you save, so you could continue later. I don't. I seem to recall the hard core, old school days of having to start from scratch once you'd lost your lives. Has my memory of things been distorted? Have games always let you save and carry on later? Or am I right?
Settle the argument for me, please?
Cheers :)

There was no save on Sonic on the megadrive. A right pain in the neck at times.

Nope no save option, but if she doesn't want to have to do levels again tell her to press Up, Down, Left, Right and hold A then press start for level select :)
Ah, nice one. Thanks Ben.
Are you using emu or Sonic Mega Collection +? If the latter you can save your progress on any of the Sonic games :D
Those were the days - I remember getting Sonic Mega Collection on the Cube and trying the cheat to see if it worked - and being amazed that it does!
Must be emulation or just a very good reproduction :)

I found that it even had the slowdown in the same places :)

Ah the classic cheat. First one i was ever aware of in a game. My mate once said not to do it othrwise my cart will get damaged
I could finish it in a (long)day. You had to back then when you couldn't save them! Super Mario Bros used to take hours if you didn't use the warps.

n00bs! You can finish Sonic in less than an hour :D
Maybe she's thinking of Sonic 3, which did have a save feature?

What game you talking about?
Sonic 1 on Megadrive and collection games has always been Up, down, left, right, hold A and press Start.
Sonic 2, level select was go to options, sound select, (press each one with A) 19, 65, 09, 09, 17 hear ring sound and press start.
hold A and press start
then with level select sound select for Debug mode:
: press 02, 09,09, 02, 01, 02, 04 (or was it) 02, 09, 09, 01, 02, 04
Level select, sound select, Super sonic cheat:
04, 01, 02, 06

by what game you talking about, I was talking to coolsurfer because I've never heard of that cheat, I knew fine well the OP was posting about Sonic on the megadrive (Or in this case on Xbox via sonic mega collection.)
I posted sonic 2 cheats in case he wanted them :)
Up, Down, Left, Right A+B+C and Start also works on Sonic 1. It's the same cheat - some people just find ABC easier to enter. I actually learnt my left from my right from it :P

oh ok, I always done it the other way.
Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles had a save system, the first two did, so she may be thinking of them.
