View Full Version : THX logos
I bought the "Wizard of Oz" disc yesterday for my nieces christmas and had a look at the box cover and noticed that there are no THX logo's on the cover , yet when i got home i had a look at my VHS copy and it had all the THX remastered bumf over the cover. Am i right in assuming that this new disc is not remastered by THX.
The only disc i can remember seeing with the THX logo's on the cover are the TPM discs.
Are region 2 discs missing out on something?

Stands a chance it isn't remastered by THX in that case cus if they take the time time to get it THX certified by god they're going to let you know about it.Seems strange they'd do the VHS and not the DVD though. Not being an expert in TWOO ( or twoo for short!) have they been released by the same company?
EDIT After a quick look on Play it doesn't look like its out on region 1 although that can't be taken as gospel.
I know the disc is issued by Warners but i'm not sure about the video.
I don't believe that they would have a remastered VHS version but not a disc!!

I'd say its because they have to pay Lucasfilm to THX approve the film (which i'm sure they've done for the master in the states)and because we are European and not Americans they cannot be bothered to pay for the License to use the logo's in the UK and thus no logo's.
I'm sure this will be the case because its normally quite expensive to remaster a film and so they create a new digital master from the best print or negatives they can find, then rejig to PAL or NTSC from there.
I'm beginning to believe that the lack of THX certification is actually a GOOD thing.
It seems to be a trend that THX discs have excessive edge enhancement on them - which thoroughly spoils the cinematic effect on a very large screen.

Doesn't really matter. Some people seem to think that the THX logo means a quality transfer, when in reality it may be nothing of the sort. All it means was that they used THX equipment to master it -- the technician could still be a nunce and give you a crappy transfer.
