Ok, if this is in the wrong forum, move it, please mods, but I have to get this off my chest...

I've looked at the cinema guide in today's Guardian, and in the entire Midlands (and then some) there's *ONE* cinema showing Apocalypse Now Redux, and the chances of getting to see La Pianiste a couple of weeks ago, or Ghost World last week were nil.

But if I wanted to see 24 showings in one day of Harry ****** Potter, then my local Odeon would be happy to oblige, that's if I didn't want to watch Legally Blonde or American Pie 2 (now in it's 3,000,000th consecutive week or something), and any chance of watching Me Without You (also released this week)? No, not a bloody hope. Want to see Kandahar or The Man Who Wasn't There? Not a chance of those either.

Now OK, I've already for the Apoc Now Redux on DVD, but I wanted to see it in the cinema too - but they can't manage a single showing within a twenty mile radius.

  :(

Well The Man Who Wasn't There was on for the last two weeks at the Odeon at Freemens Common and there is also the Phoenix for something outside of the usual blockbusters. It isn't ALL bad.

In fairness, you're right, the Phoenix is absolutely excellent - haven't got a bad word to say about it or the wonderful staff there... I write for Leicester Uni's student newspaper, and we've got nothing to review this week at all, seeing as they aren't showing anything new at the Odeon (for which we have a departmental pass)

It's just that the films I've wanted to see most - Ghost World, La Pianiste, Apocalypse Now Redux, Me Without You (although I already saw it at the Phoenix), I haven't been able to see locally, and now I'll have to take a shot in the dark on DVD [not that I don't usually].

Granted The Man Who Wasn't There has been showing round the corner at the Odeon, but it just strikes me that nobody needs 24 showings a day of Harry Potter and bugger all showings of any of the latest *other* releases when they've got so many screens. I really don't imagine them filling that many showings.

Well you are right about the HP showings - the Odeon hasn't yet sold out an evening showing! (according to the manager)

I'm with you on Ghost World though, was looking out for it with no luck.

Mebbe it'll hit the Phoenix.

The manager? You mean Ken Love, star of the Cohen brothers sequel, "The Man Who's Never There"? ;)
