does any one know any other HK films as funny as this.. i had a quick look on imdb and it recommends Forbidden City Cop.. has anyone got this DVD.. is it much good?

i can't wait to show this to my mate who loves Kung Fu films and football :D

Shaolin Soccer is a gem.

It's a shame that most of the public won't see or even hear of it.

Agreed it's funny, but I think the forums hype around it is slightly unjustified.

I just don't think it's as funny as the forums have made it out to be, I think many of the 'Soccer' sequences are played down from what they could have been with much of the action taking place in the players face, why couldn't we have had some long panning shots showing the entire pitch, that would have made some interesting matches.

I also thought the sub-plot was very weak and should've been scrapped altogether for a greater traning session.

Just my opinion, don't want to start an :argue:

Right, that’s it. I’m going to have to get this film. Could someone tell me the best place to get it from?

Cheers powlest :)
I already have battle Royale, I got it from Ringo’s. Great film, must have watched it 5 times already:clap: . I take it you recommend DDDHouse from experience, as I have not ordered from an R3 region before.

DDDhouse is great; don't be put off by the design of their site, which is a little messy. They're responsive and very quick on delivery.

If you already have Battle Royale, then check out Bichunmoo - think Crouching Tiger with swords. Utterly amazing.

I thought CTHD was all about swords

You're absolutely right. I meant to say "more swords" and "less martial arts"

Too many late nights

Get the Korean version of bichunmoo from http://www.movityme.com instead of the HK Deltamac r0 version. It's p&s (but not the fault of Deltamac as I think that the korean distributor forced it), the korean release should be heaps better.

And very expensive it is too! I've got both (the Deltamac version is up for trade in the classifieds :) ) I was a bit dissapointed because the widescreen on the SE is barely widescreen. I'm no expert on ratios but the Korean version is almost full screen, although I've yet to watch the extras. Fantastic film though!

As for Shaolin Soccer, yes it's good, quite funny but not, as some have claimed, a masterpiece

Is it not due for a general cinema release in the States? Probably cut and dubbed but still........

Is there a chance of either Shaolin Soccer or Battle Royale getting an R1/2/4 release? I'm quite keen on battle royale especially, but the DVD Times review isn't very kind on the picture quality of the R3 disk. On the other hand it's only about £9 delivered so maybe I should just go ahead and buy it....

There's nothing wrong with the picture quality, perhaps the review is a bit picky. for the £9.50 it cost me it's well worth it and I wouldn't be disappointed at double the price Don't forget that dts soundtrack if your system can make use of it.

What are you watching it on? I don't see it being a problem on my 36" Sony CRT

I've seen 2 more Stephen Chow films: God Of Cookery & From Beijing With Love & I would have no problems recommending them to anyone who likes a good comedy.

I cant praise Shaolin Soccer highly enough tbh. Easily the funniest film ive seen this year and most original to boot. Well worth a look!

Shaolin Soccer is a fantastic film, easily one of the best of this year (IMO of course).

Those wondering about the US release I'm sure I read at BnB forums that the preview screenings for it were original language so hopefully they'll get it right.

Other Stephen Chow movies that come highly recommended are...

God of Cookery, King of Comedy, From Beijing With Love, Love on Delivery, Royal Tramp 1 & 2...none of these are as visual as Shaolin Soccer, but all are very, very funny.

this is stoopid! I'd heard a lot about both Shaolin Soccer and Battle Royale, and now I've just ordered both from DDDHouse! Talk about DVD addiction!

I'll see what I make of them fairly soon......

Anyone know what Accidental Spy is like?
As for DDDHouse, I cant praise them enough. I got Battle Royale and Shaolin Soccer for under £18 delivered. Arrived in 6 days as well. I also got Taxi 2 from there with DD 5.1 and DTS for £9! The R2 release only had DD 2.0 apparently.

I also purchased Shaolin Soccer (and Battle Royale) recently, but I used Coolashop instead of DDDHouse. I think they offer just as good a service.

Shaolin Soccer - hilarious. And some nice effects too.

Battle Royale (R3) - back cover, second row down, fifth from the left - absolutely gorgeous or what?! I think I'm in lust....

I didnt have a problem with the R3 picture quality, it appears to be quite a grainy film intentionally & the R2 is to be released by Tartan which means its doubtfull the transfer will be any better, plus you'll have to put up with burnt in subs & pay £17.99 for the privledge.
