Had MOTD on in the background and it said that there was news that a player who had moved on Monday night was actually signed AFTER the transfer deadline and as such would have to go back...didn't catch who it was though, (Bellamy Perhaps)

Apparently the Sunday People is reporting it as well

Really? That would be interesting. I saw an interview with Bruce and he said the paperwork was done just before the deadline...

WOW, this could get interesting if true. thought Lineker looked surprisingly shocked when he said it.

SSN mentioned during their paper review that if proved to be true, all games would have to be replayed. I think surely its more likely that they'll be simply be docked the points for illegal usage of the player?

This story is now up on The People Website (http://www.people.co.uk/sport/tm_objectid=15157469%26method=full%26siteid=55768%26headline=pandiani%2dtransfer%2dshocker%2d-name_page.html)

BIRMINGHAM CITY new boy Walter Pandiani signed AFTER the transfer deadline in a sensation that will rock football.

And the shock news could lead to calls for Birmingham's game against Southampton in midweek to be replayed and for Pandiani to be sent back to Deportivo La Coruna.

The Uruguayan striker was also in the City starting line-up at Old Trafford yesterday. The deal for Pandiani - nicknamed The Rifle - only hit the target at the Premier League's offices after the Monday midnight cut-off point.

Pandiani's switch to England was held up because of the lateness of talks and another move - Michael Dawson's from Forest to Spurs - being completed before the official deadline...but was nonetheless still allowed to go through.

Under normal rules Pandiani's loan switch from the Spanish side should have been called off as the window had officially shut.

However, the Premier League accepted that the move was in progress at the time and Pandiani went on to make a scoring debut against Southampton on Wednesday.

But now Saints could ask for the game to be replayed on the grounds that Pandiani was ineligible. The matter may go as high as FIFA.

The SP can reveal the drama behind the late move that is causing major worry inside the corridors of power - and will have Saints and others asking serious questions.

Pandiani's transfer only started rolling on Monday evening after Deportivo stalled on letting him join Italian side Fiorentina.

Birmingham City had missed out on Craig Bellamy and failed to stop Henri Camara going to Southampton so they were grateful when Pandiani was offered to them by agent Francis Martin.

Pandiani's Spanish agent brokered a deal in a rush and the paperwork was hurriedly put together at La Coruna to send to the Premier League HQ in London.

Birmingham officials sent their forms through too, but by this time midnight was drawing close.

In a further twist, the Premier League fax machine was occupied just before midnight as Tottenham hurried through the move for Nottingham Forest's Dawson.

Dawson's advisers confirmed that his transfer was registered at 11.58pm, with the last part of a four-page fax transmitted with two minutes to spare. And the Premier League website said Dawson's deal was the last to go through before midnight, with no mention of Pandiani.

Sources in Spain are adamant that the paperwork did not arrive at Premier HQ until 12.30am - which is technically too late.

Premier League spokesman Phillip French said: "The paperwork did arrive shortly after midnight but that was because the fax machine was jammed. This was explained to Mike Foster (Premier League secretary) in good time and the transfer was approved."

The Fax Machine was jammed?

What a technology filled world the Premier League live in!

And there endith the story. I don't see why a player can't be registered subject to confirmation and why a phone call can't be considered notification pending a written confirmation. Anything else is a bit petty.

Seems a bit of technicality and, potentially, a non-story, but it would indeed be rather embarrassing! I was a bit worried when I read how close Dawson's transfer was - it's all our fault! :D

Because the rules state that all the paperwork has to be completed and in the hands of the respective clubs before the window shuts - whether the fax machine jammed or the postman was late or whatever is irrelevant.

If the transfer has not completed before the window shuts it doesn't happen at all. IMO Birmingham have knowingly played an inelligible player and therefore should forfeit the game ... none of this replay rubbish.

Eh? How's that then? The FA approved the move, so as far as B'Ham were concerned, he was elligible!! Not B'Ham's fault IMHO.

Didn't Man U buy a Keeper a few years ago to play in the Champions League, but his forms or something were delayed somewhere

If Im right, despite the transfer being completed in time, they could not play him because the correct paper work was not in the right place.

Rules are rules & it should be down to the club to make sure that they get the correct forms to the correct place on time rather than the responsibility for some one to receive them.

Looks like another FA balls up to me. :nono:

I doubt the FA will admit to makeing a mistake anyway, as its never admitted one before.

Another non story on a slow news day. It's The People, FFS. They didn't have anything sensational to put out, so they made up a non story. The transfer had been accepted by the FA, they have accepted why the papers didn't arrive in time. End of story. The guy is a brum player, fair and square.

I would not say its a non-story as it did appear to happen.

I just wonder if the FA got the ok with UEFA, as the transfer window is there rule rather than the FA.

Can see both side to the Brum & Sts view of things.

As it stands he is a legal player, but I just wonder if the FA had the authority to say it was ok.
