Looks like £3m + 2 Saints players - offer accepted.

They just spoke to Harry Redknapp live on Five Live and he said it wasn't happening and that Reid was going to Tottenham.

Sky (http://skysports.planetfootball.com/list.asp?hlid=252773&CPID=10&CLID=&lid=2&title=Saints+agree+Reid+deal&channel=Football_Home) seem pretty specific on the details. The deal is believed to be in the region of £3 million with Brett Ormerod and Darren Kenton moving in the opposite direction.Despite agreeing a deal with Forest Redknapp fears he may miss out completing a move for Reid.

Redknapp has indicated that another Premiership club are chasing the Irishman and that they are close to agreeing a move for the winger.

Tottenham have been repeatedly linked with Reid and it may be that Spurs have rekindled their interest in the player in the wake of Southampton's bid being accepted.

The story broke at 2:40pm but Nujol's right, Redknapp did deny it about 2:50pm.....perhaps the news agencies haven't caught up with the comments.....basically he replied "No, I don't think so" when the interviewer said "And Reid to join on Monday".

Of course, 'Arry could be wheeling and dealing....

It appeared on Notts Forrest official site at about 2pm, confirming that they'd accepted an offer of £3m + 2 players from Saints......also says that only one other club made an offer, but that offer was derisory - personally, I hope Spurs don't get him as I think that's far too much money for a 1st division player.

I think it was Norwich, we offered £100K plus two slap up meals from Delia, Forest wanted three

...and now Gary Megson's saying there's no agreement with Spurs...but there is with Southampton (subject to the 3 players agreeing).

Saints have offered £3m plus ormerod and kenton who lets say are valued at £2m between them, perhaps £3m if we are talking Leeds circa 4 years ago ;). Spursssss have bid £4m. Therefore, as Megson said they want more cash. Seems obvious they want to get spurs to put up teh extra money.

From my point of view I'd take Lennon (leeds) and Routledge for the £5m Forest value Reid at (plus there would be change) and I think that is a much better deal.

It's not a given that Andy Reid will agree terms with Southampton anyway. After all he's supposedly been desperate to play premiership football for so long now, might he be better to stick it out until the end of the season and see if Southampton stay up.

Nottingham (or Nottm if you're going to shorten it!) Forest have had a bid from Spurs for Michael Dawson but doesn't say whether they have accepted it.
I think one deal may depend on the other.

I think one deal may depend on the other.Do you think if Reid and Dawson go you will be relegated? I think it will be extremely tough for you losing two of your best players. I'm sure the Ginger Chimp will do his best to keep Notts Forest ;) up though.

Yes I think Forest will go down for sure if both go but it's pretty grim if none of them go to be honest. The away game against Rotherham on Saturday is crucial. Forest have not won an away league game all season so it's a big test.

Thing is, they could have had ~£5m each 6 months ago when Spurs & Liverpool were in for them, but turned it down with their rather unrealistic valuation. Now it's £3m and a couple of crap players, however, if they go down then they'd be lucky to get £1m each for them........bet they wish they'd sold them both 6 months ago now!
My dads a Forrest fan and I have a big softspot for them, but can't understand why they've cut their own throats like this!

Spurs now in with a joint £8m offer for both :(

we (Forest) were looking to be going down anyway, but selling our most creative forward going player, and our best defender is not really going to help is it?

I know they both want to play for better teams, but what are we going to do with the money?
Have to wait and see i suppose

£8M is a lot and I think it will be too good to turn down unfortunately. I think they will use some of it (or hope at least) to make a big attempt to save us from going down and then rebuild for next year.
My worry is that due to Paul Hart going etc we don't seem to be seeing the emergance of any new kids from the Academy.

There's not a lot of time to get everything done though surely?! Unless it's some sort of agreement for the Summer? (not sure if you can do that in England).

t@xman
31-01-2005, 17:43
Not happy if that goes through! £8m is a joke for two players that have never touched a ball in the premiership.

Either that or the players are already on their way down to London to thrash out personal terms and have a medical. I've heard of this kind of late deal happening before.

Well it's on Nottm Forrests official site that the offer has been accepted! Looks like they're both on their way to Spurs, but I really can't believe the price.

Forest have left it a bit late though! If they'd accepted our 20 previous offers they'd have had time to buy some players to save them from the drop

I think they're resigned to relegation and intend on using the money to cushion the blow. It wouldn't surprise me if their original intention was to leave it this late so that they have a viable excuse for not spending any of it.

But we can still spend it as the transfer window doesn't affect football league clubs so we could still buy players with the money (not that we will as most of it will got to the debt we are in)

I thought the transfer window was coming in for the lower leagues this year? If not, then I'm obviously mistaken........must be the cynic in me!

The fans already gave reid a goodbye on Sat and i just had a horrible thought, does that mean gaz taylor will be now made permenant forest captain?

I bet it will as Megson appears to like him a lot.
We have made a bid for Rotherham keeper Mike Pollitt  wouldn't have thought keeper was a priority but maybe it's part of a cunning plan?
We play Rotherham on Saturday so buy their keeper before then and potentially make them weakened at the back. Continue to do that with all teams we play before the end of the season! :D
