View Full Version : [{Cricket] VB Cup - Australia, Windies and Pakistan!!
I know its half way through the tournament, and Australia are already into the final, and todays match between Windies and Pakistan is crucial... But still thought id create a thread...
This tournament is a fine example of how the Aussies are in a league of their own... i have never seen a side that plays soo well and can easily pick up singles of every single ball allowing the scoreboard to tick over so quickly... I dont think any team can compete with these at the moment... Maybe England... or am i being too imaginative...
I have been watching this when I can. To show how much the Aussies fight for each other you only have to look at their scorecard against the West Indies in the last match when half there team were out for under 100. The fight back was lead by Katich and the tail enders who put on a partnership of 70 plus runs (Lee and Gillespie).
I can't see any else other than an Australian whitewash in this series.
Brian Lara 156 off 136 balls :notworthy out of the West Indies 339-4.
looks like a whitewash series by Australia has been shattered by Pakistan.. It sounds so good saying that...
Pakistan beat Australia, giving them a good chance to get into the final...
Australia 265 (50 ov)
Pakistan 268/7 (47.2 ov)
Role on the finals.. we`ll probably get hammered again.. but i might as well enjoy it while it lasts!!
decent performance by the pakis, australia made a **** poor job of their batting again (about 30 runs below par) - not sure that the rotation policy is proving to be the wisest one...
The fact that all bar two of the Aussie batsman got starts but failed to go on was a deciding factor for me. Good all round performance by Pakistan though.
It sets up next weeks Pakistan/West Indies clash nicely.
i think our bowling effort is improving day by day, and it wont be too long before we see a fab pair like Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis.. The new lad Akmal bowled really well and I would seriously prefer it if Shoaib Akhtar was thrown out of the team and this guy brought in instead of him..
Just hope we can pull off a win against Windies tomorrow...
aye tomorrow is crunch...expet the windies are good at crunch matches and we [lately] are kak.
such a wealth of talent [akhtar, afridi et al] who are always more worried about their hair than getting dirty for the team..pity
will be rivetting tomorrow but i have long stopped keeping hope... :oh-hum:
prefer it if Shoaib Akhtar was thrown out of the team....
quite right, his attitude on this tour has been disgraceful. he should be acting as an inspiration for the young lads around him, but instead he's just been sulking around everywhere. and it's no wonder he has injury trouble - have you seen how much weight he's carrying! - him and inzi must be having a pie eating contest :)
Pakistan set out a great total... 50 overs Pakistan 8 for 307...
i'm so dumb; i knew the mach was "today" and planned to snooze in the afternoon and stay up all night to watch it - only to see it is a day/night and already over!
oh well we won all 3 matches i didnt watch so i guess i am banned from watching the finals
So Pakistan make the final then. It looks like the West Indies had a good go at getting the 308 they needed today but I guess they were always struggling once Gayle got out early.
a fab game and a fab result at the end of it.. Paksitan made a great total, and I was near enough poo-ing my pants when Sarwan and Chanderpaul set out a pretty nifty partnership.. I was amazed how the like Hinds and Browne could put up a fight.. I just kept on remembering the ICC final between Windies and England and how the tailenders ended up winning the match...
Roll on the Finals... :D
Roll on the Finals... :D
Sorry but I can't see any other than an Australian victory, probably by 2-0. I just can't see them slipping up against you lot again.
yeh i know.. but its good living in hope... we always screw up in the finals!! :D i just hope a miracle happen and glen mcgrath doesnt get picked for any of the matches... i love living in hope :D

Sorry kanjar ;)
18 runs was the margin then, I can't help but think that Pakistan were a bit slow to start off with even though they lost those early wickets.
yep.. very slow start indeed.. think it was the Aussie attack ripping through our opening batsmen... but a comeback from inzi, shoaib and a bit by afridi did give me hope but it just didnt pay off.. oh well another attempt left.. i honestly think we will win the next match and lose the 3rd final.. its a typical pakistani style of failure.. LOL!! i just hope for next match brett lee, glen mcgrath, gilchrist, symonds and ponting all get arrest for cerb crawling!!

It was the Aussie bowlers and Brett Lee particularly who won the match for Australia, Inzy threw his wicket away as did Akmal and once that partnership was broken there was only going to be one winner.
roll on tomorrow morning.. or is it at 11.00 today... *checks sky EPG*

 They'd still find a way to beat you. They've been one of the best teams in all of sports for a long time. Players such as Taylor and the Waugh's have left and somebody else has stepped up and they seem not to miss a beat.
The Pakis have got/had great individual talent over the years but they never seem to blend together as a team IMO.

Its 3.30 tomorrow morning so it should finish around 11. I still can't see anything other than an Australian victory.
Agreed. If Pakistan couldn't take the chance they had in the 1st final why should they win anymore ?
very poor attempt today by pakistan!! :(
thats what you call a collapse... typical pakistani failure and a poor end to the tournament... :(
It isn't over just yet, if these two can keep going like they are you could still be in with a chance.
Pigeon gets the last wicket and the Aussies win.
:( Oh well next month we tour india.. should be a fantastic experience.. I fly out on the 6th of March.. Just hope I get an Indian Visa!!
These two games were quite similar in the fact that Australia never really batted to their full potential and Pakistan lost early wickets that put them on the back foot, they do rely to much in Inzaman to be honest.

Roll on New Zealand and then England, Both tours should have some fantastic cricket.
I'd replace Lehman for Michael Bevan though, The Aussie selecters must have the hardest job.
Lehmann & Bevan are both past it :p :D
same scenario throughout for pakistan: 38/3 and 38/4; the openers are up to scratch.
Youhana was out for a rash shot; good run for Afridi who was on form.
Should have been an easy target to chase down...
How didnt Brett Lee get withdrawn for that blatant beamer [worse than the one razzap got pulled for]?

I didn't see the Razzaq ones but he did get stopped from bowling and even though Brett Lee only bowled the one in my opinion it was deliberate and he should have been stopped as well as there is no room in the game from it.
razzaq bowled one to brett lee that was pretty much low-chest high and medium pace. BL got bat to ball and in doing so spun around and fell.
not trying to be biased but the Lee one was vicious and in revenge and much faster.
It is low that his skipper didnt even have a word him after it. I think the match referee should have done something abotu it but as the umpire gave him a warning i suppose that is that.
I agree with you: either fast bowlers shoudl be given a bit of slack since all their armoury has been steadily eroded, but since it has been it should be enforced fairly.
we always seem to come out a cropper in these situations...[and for the record the number 9 was never out: given lbw when he wasnt offering stroke, bat behind pads!
we was robbed :p ]
only kidding...but it ruined the finale a bit
hahaha... i just seen brett lees beamer.. all i can say is he is more of a kanjar than me!!
Didn't see a problem with Lee's beamer, it should be part of a fast bowlers armoury.

They are the hardest ball to pick up and thus play so there is no way they should be part of a bowlers armory.
There's nothing wrong with a little chin music, I wouldn't want to see a return of bodline type bowling but if a short pitched ball keeps the batsman on his toes then fair enough.
These are the types of balls that can cause serious injury if the batsman doesn't pick it up, which he could struggle to do especially under lights.

yes precisely - but it wasnt a short pitched ball it was basically chucked very fast straight at him...
though i agree that it is a pity we dont see more fast bowler vs pre-eminent batsman contests....there is no possibility of suprise anymore: they bowl one bouncer and you dont have to worry about another again in that over so at best it'd be a yorker...
