the annoying thing is that it says on the website the price for standing tickets in the USA will be $49.50... what's the betting that the price here will be £49.50 and not the equivalent in dollars at the current rate fo exchange :(

Amsterdam Arena prices are supposed to be:

€53.00 €57.00 €61.00 €65.00 €69.00 €70.00

I guess the cheapest ticket in the UK will be £40.

As good as *2 are, these sort of tours are only as good as the album they promote.

In this case very average.

I liked it when it first come out, but after a few plays I was over the "great new *2 material" feeling, & left with an album that apart from Vertigo left me cold.

I'd agree with your first comment if this was a relatively new band with little back catalogue material to plumb, but fact is *2 have been making great records for over 20 years, and the show will be full of those great songs, as well as the arguably 'lesser' material from the new album...won't it??

Vertigo is almost the worst track on the album !

It's not like they need to "promote" an album as such at this point in their career. More than half the show will be older songs after all (not that the new songs need defending in my opinion).

mix up..

two different tours - Zootv (1992/93) and popmart (1997).. both amazing.. some people didn't like the pop album much, but the popmart tour at Wembley which I saw was amazing..

The last tour was arenas - elevation 2001.. that sold out in minutes.. as this is stadiums, it should last a bit longer..

I've just got 4 for glasgow. £50 a pop. Total cost 200 + 19 (srv chg) + 5 (handling) = 224 earth pounds. Just lucky I know its worth every penny.

It was a saga though, twice got through only for page to die and then be barred. I emailed them as well and after a bit found my code was working again, and got them 3rd time lucky. Not sure if its an automate reset if you put your code in the subject like it says or whether someone reads and resets for you.

Luke give it 5 mins then try your code again.

...popmart (1997).. some people didn't like the pop album much, but the popmart tour at Wembley which I saw was amazing.. I thought both Pop and the Popmart tour were both incredible but they've been going backwards since then. They seem to be playing it far too safe.

Having said that, I may be tempted to see them again this time around, especially if they put on a 'big' show. Any ideas what the production design is going to be like?

You know? I don't care what kind of 'show' they put on. They were always fantastic live. I watched a 1983 Loreley gig shown on Rockpalast the other week and it was amazing - and all the stage set consisted of were a couple of white flags. They don't need huge lemons and arches and whatnot - let the music speak for itself!

Tickets are a bit *ouch* and I'm still peeved that I'm not going to be available to do anything computer or phone wise when they go on sale. Oh well, best wait for the inevitable extra dates I suppose. I do quite fancy seeing them in Dublin though, it should be a real occasion.

I then call FANFIRE ( who run the U2 website) in the US on 1 800 76771, to be told that I needed to calll ticketmaster and a supervisor could book the ticket there and then.

So I called: 0870 153 5353, and went throught my complete saga, and eventually they relented, and booked the tickets  over the phone.

It will continue until the general sale on Friday, or until such time as the pre-sale allocation is sold out, which will be considerably earlier than Friday! At least it won't be like that NIN pre-sale fiasco, when ALL the tickets went!!

This message is now on the U2.com site:

"Ticketmaster: An Apology to European Fans

Ticketmaster have apologised to U2 fans who found themselves frustrated by
technical problems in today's online presale to U2.Com Members.

'Ticketmaster would like to apologise to those U2 Fan Club members who
experienced problems in purchasing tickets via the Ticketmaster website
today.

'In order to ensure fans were given priority access to tickets, U2's
management instructed Ticketmaster to organise a pre-sale for U2 Fan Club
members. Members were given a six-digit code which, for security reasons,
was enabled for one-time use only. Tickets went onsale at 10:00am this
morning and immediately Ticketmaster experienced an incredibly high level
of demand. This resulted in the website, www.ticketmaster.co.uk, offering
a slower than normal service. Unfortunately some customers were timed out
of the website and found that when they attempted to continue with their
transaction, the six-digit code was no longer valid.

An automatic email link had been set up on the website to help any
customers with an invalid code. Ticketmaster has been working to resolve issues concerning access codes and will be contacting all customers affected with further instructions on how to purchase tickets.

'There is still ticket availability at all UK venues and we are confident
that all those affected by the problem today will still be able to purchase
tickets.

Once again Ticketmaster would like to apologise to those affected by the
problem today. Ticketmaster is committed to offering the best possible
service and we can assure customers that once we became aware of the
problem, we took every possible step to ensure a quick and efficient
solution."

clockwork67 - I found out the seat prices;

£45 for upper 'nose bleed' seats
£65 for middle tier
£70 for lower tier
£85 for seats closest to the front

I received a call an hour later and was able to book the tickets (4 unreserved at cardiff @ 246.95 inc) on the phone. They said that they had received 20,000 emails regarding the melt down !!!.

Still very chuffed that persistance finally paid off.

Just found out from the ticketmaster site that the pre-sale ends at 12 NOON today!!!!! Still no sign of the twickenham standing tickets...

The ticketmaster site is saying that the standing tickets are still unavailable, and the seats are 'limited availability'.

I phoned up , gave her my code, address , contact numbers, card details etc...

She wasn't to sure of there were any standing tickets left and i said i didn't want seating tickets. She said i would recieve an e-mail to confirm. Nothing was mentioned on the price of the tickets!!

Fingers Crossed, hope i get an e-mail in the next 24 hours , otherwise i will phone again , as i might have to try for Dublin tickets.

I was looking forward to seeing U2 this year, as I have only seen them on the Zooropa tour which I must say was excellent.

But there is no way in the world I am paying those kind of ticket prices for a stadium gig. As I thought Bono was a man of the people, it is really nice to see him giving the finger to fans like Madonna did.

Still you suckers will pay up for it, like you did for Madonna

Check this out on Ticketmaster:

Please note: You are strictly only allowed to make
one booking for this tour. There is a limit of 4 tickets per
booking and because you can only make one booking, you can only
book for one venue. Therefore you will be unableto book for
more than one venue and unable to book for more than 4 tickets
at your chosen venue. Multiple bookings will be cancelled
without notification.

Bloody fantastic! So, I've paid $40 to get 4 pre-sale tickets to Twickenham but can now not go to any other U2 concert?? I've never known owt like this before! Surely the allocation should be 4 tickets PER SHOW? It's not as if these are small intimate venues, is it?? U2 seem to have lost the plot somewhat. Perhaps their next album should be titled How To Dismantle Years Of Goodwill...

If not, just head off to any number of other ticket agencies selling tickets tomorrow.

Well, as usual, millions of tickets on ebay (http://search.ebay.co.uk/u2-twickenham_W0QQsojsZ1QQfromZR40) already, including some for the Sunday date (I only looked at Twickenham, being a Londoner myself).

So all this "pre-sale just for the fans" farce has not worked at all (as expected I guess).

Quite a few of the ads seems to have 10 or 25 tickets to sell, not sure how they can have that many given the 4 ticket limit, these are being sold by people with feedback in the hundreds, so they must actually have the tickets.

No, it's 4 tickets per TOUR, says same on Ticketline:

Please note that there will be a strict limit on the number of tickets that you will be allowed to buy. This limit is for 4 tickets per person across the tour. This means that no more than 4 tickets in total for the entire tour may be bought by the same person or by using the same credit card. A person can buy 4 single tickets, 1 for each date, or 4 tickets for 1 date, or any combination so long as the total does not exceed 4. Any tickets bought in excess of this will be refunded without notice.

quote re u2.com

Thanks to everyone who took part in our first U2.Com ticket presale for the European and North American 'Vertigo Tour'.

We know that subscribers experienced difficulties buying their tickets and we're pleased that those problems are now being ironed out.

Most of you have now be able to book tickets for these shows and we appreciate your messages of thanks and support. Sorry that demand exceeded supply for Madison Square Garden NY and Wachovia Centre, Philadelphia shows. We went way over the original allocation.

We really appreciate your patience as this is the first time we've attempted an online presale. New technology * including U2.Com - helps us stay in touch with you but also reveals its drawbacks when everyone tries to do the same thing at once.

Don't forget, if you have a subscriber code it will still be honoured when the band plays more dates. There will be more tickets for U2.Com subscribers.

We are very aware that some people seem to have abused the system to scalp on Ebay or similar sites. We are currently looking into the possibility of identifying these people and withdrawing their tickets. Any help you can give us on this would be gratefully received.

I'm not sure what in reality U2 or ticketmaster can do about the "touts", because there is no law preventing people from selling non sporting event tickets for more than the face value (as far as I am aware). U2 could get people for breach of the presle T&Cs if they use their access code more than once but other than that nothing.

Just my tu'pence worth though.

Actually, Ticketmaster could legally cancel the tickets if they find them up on ebay because their terms and conditions specifically preclude us buying tickets 'for commercial use', which I suppose is a posh way of saying selling them at a profit? TBH, I reckon Ticketmaster have neither the time, resouces, 'can be arsed-enoughness' to do owt about it. Think about it, Ticketmaster must be raking it in with the touts, as every half decent show sells out in minutes these days....

Yes, as if U2.com have the moral high ground here!! Paying $40 for pre-sale tickets and then being told AFTERWARDS that you can't book for ANY other venue in the general sale is, at best, questionable and at worst smacks of sharp practice!!

 u2.com have abused the system by asking prople to pay $40 to join so they can buy the presale tickets

Not really. The presale is for members of their site. If you want to join the site you get access to the presale tickets, if you don't want to join you buy them when they are put on general sale. No one forced anybody to pay the money to join the site and there are quite a few bigger music artists that have a paid members only section of their site where things like this are released first

You have taken my reply out of context. u2.com were moaning that people have abused the presale by buying them and selling them on eBay

U2 are taking the mickey out of their fans.... it's all about money for them... but then it has been since the late 80's.

But surely it's these people who are buying presale tickets that are abusing and taking the mickey out of the fans? Afterall, the whole point of presale tickets is so fans get first choice of the tickets.

It's also these people that are driving up the ticket prices. Many artists are seeing how much their tickets go for on eBay and are thinking if people are willing to pay that much for tickets why shouldn't they charge that much as they're the ones putting the work in and not the scroungers who are just looking to make a quick profit.

These ticket companies really need to be introduced to the wonders of burst web hosting.

Why are they scroungers? My tickets will go on ebay and the profit will pay for a ticket to this years British Gran Prix, something I wouldn't buy with my own money

If anyone's interested, Cardiff seated tickets still available here:

www.ticketzone.co.uk

Used em for Little Britain tickets and seem OK, if a little slow. Only problem is it doesn't tell u the row number, but I rang up with my Little Britain booking number and they confirmed the row number etc.* All standing have gone, but seatss start from £40 plus BF and P&P...

From Seetickets.com?

I booked two seats for Manchester from them and it seemed far too good to be true. The order flew through with no problems while at least three other sites weren't responding. I got the e-mail confirming the order about 10 mins after I booked. Everything seems OK on their ticket tracker, but now I'm again worried its too good to be true. No cancellation e-mail yet, but I am (and have been) expecting one.

I haven't seen anybody else receive an e-mail like yours on other forums, if they have over sold their allocation then its only a matter of time. They'll be as popular as Ticketmaster

Why are they scroungers?

Because they're buying tickets to make a profit with no intent of attending the event, thus denying fans the chance to buy them at face value, perhaps? :oh-hum:

HUGE rumours abound as to the support bands for ythe UK/European leg, with names including the afore-mentioned Kings of Leon, Scissor Sisters (now, that would be very brave of U2!), Muse (likewise, VERY brave!) and others I forget. I last saw U2 in the late 80's at the NEC Arena and they had fantastic support.....from non-stop Beatles records! Still ranks as probably the best gig I've ever been to....

Crikey, I must be getting old, I don't remember a support band at all! Maybe we got there late...

What I DO remember is Bono getting a bloke out of the crowd, giving him a guitar and letting him play along with one of the songs! A brilliant moment! I think the beatles songs were a fantastic idea IMO.

Not unless you were in Tempe, Arizona it wasn't (where the outdoor Rattle and Hum scenes were filmed).

Maybe the last shows of the UK tour ??

edit !

just checked - Birmingham were the last UK shows. They did one after that in Cork, then off to the US for the third leg of the Joshua Tree tour, ending in December in Arizona.

Just received email " An open letter from Larry Mullen"

Dear XXXXXXXX

This is not something that I would normally do, but I feel that I have
to do something to redress this situation.

There was a mess up in the way the tickets were distributed through
U2.com for the Vertigo pre-sale. Some of it was beyond our control, but
some of it wasn't.

I am now in the process of figuring out a way of distributing the
tickets for our intended return to North America in the fall. The only
fair way of doing this, is to give U2 Propaganda members, who are now
U2.com members, priority in the queue.

After that, people will be given priority in the order in which they joined.
Many people who joined U2.com and didn't get tickets are
understandably angry. They now have the option to get a full refund of
their subscription fee.

The idea that our long-time U2 fans and scalpers competed for U2
tickets through our own website is appalling to me. I want to apologise
to you who have suffered that.

If your U2.com pre-sale experience has left you disappointed, I hope
this will go some way towards reassuring you of our total commitment
to our audience.

Slainte
Larry.

By the way, a note to those so-called U2 fans who are quick to accuse
U2 of unseemly behaviour, I've only got two words for you...

Must admit they handled this badly, if they really wanted to stop the scalpers they could have made every ticket issued to an idividual person and could have had random checks at the gate not allowing access without ID corresponding to the named person on the ticket, lets face it with the technology available nowadays, the time before the concerts are due and the charges they charge for selling tickets this would have been quite easy to achieve

I doubt that there will be a 2nd Cardiff show as they are due in Vienna 3 days after the 1st one.

There should be 1 or 2 extra Manchester shows and a 3rd Dublin show.

Nicky Ray
04-02-2005, 12:48
isn't it for coldplay?

Suppose it could be. U2 will be due in Glasgow on the 21st of June, so unless they make an extra Twickenham date on the 17th. But that would annoy fans who bought initial tickets for the 18th.

There is room for extra Manchester dates.

I would guess they will only do three shows in Dublin, with a limit of two shows in other areas.

Boozyuzi
04-02-2005, 12:50
There a provisonal concert booking at Twickenham on 11th June.

U2 play Brussels on 10th June and Schalke stadium on 12th June so it won't be them.

Just a thought....maybe the 11th June booking is the Live Aid 2 concert that was talked about ?
