Ive just seen that the first band for Donington has been confirmed (by the band themselves not CCLive), so I thought I'd start the thread :)

Clicky (http://www.systemofadown.com/newsFrame.html)

That of course means the festival is Saturday 11th/Sunday 12th June this year.

Full line up on page 3!

They must be getting close to headline status by now.

What do you reckon - 2nd or 3rd to last?

I'd say 2nd, but they may headline. Linkin Park headlined last year and they are half the band SOAD are :p

Couple more rumours...

BBC Radio 1 "Rock Show" has reportedly announced that SLIPKNOT will be appearing at this year's Download Festival in Donington, U.K. SYSTEM OF A DOWN have already confirmed their participation in the festival, which will take place over the weekend of June 11-12. An official announcement regarding this year's lineup is expected to be made on February 2.

And...

VirtualFestivals.com has issued the following report:

"Following news that BLACK SABBATH will be playing at the Roskilde festival in Denmark, there's talk that Ozzy Osbourne and the rest of the band's original line-up could be coming to Download too!

"The announcement confirms that BLACK SABBATH will be on the European festival circuit this summer and means they will be likely to play a UK date. There's be no better suited festival in this country than Download!

"SYSTEM OF A DOWN have already confirmed they will be playing the Sunday night, so we predict that BLACK SABBATH could fill the Saturday evening slot.

"VF also has reason to believe that VELVET REVOLVER will be playing at the festival, possibly supporting one of the headline acts. After all Donington Park is where GUNS N' ROSES put themselves on the map back in 1988! (back then at the Monsters Of Rock festival.)

"Other strong rumours doing the rounds concerning this year's Download line-up include MÖTLEY CRÜE, THE DATSUNS, THE PRODIGY, MARILYN MANSON, GREEN DAY, IRON MAIDEN, INCUBUS, SLIPKNOT, H.I.M., ASH, and outside bet AC/DC.

"In 2004, METALLICA and LINKIN PARK headlined the 60,000-capacity rock festival.

"Download 2005 takes place at Donington Park, Derbyshire, on 11-12 June. It is believed that tickets will go on sale to Download members in early February."

I wouldnt much weight behind the latter rumour as bands like Motley Crue are already playing elsewhere Download weekend, but as for Slipknot I wouldnt mind seeing them as we missed them last year.

another rumor i just read from total guitar magazine...

Three Day Download -- TotalRock understands that this year's Download Festival at Donington may be run for three days. We must stress that no official announcement has yet been made, but there is strong talk of the first day (June 10) having a more indie rock-oriented bill, with the second (June 11) being an Ozzfest day, headlined by Black Sabbath, and the third (June 12) featuring System Of A Down. More soon.

Powder were an indie band from the Brit pop years. There claim to fame being that the drummer from Supergrass's Mrs sang lead vocals.

I have their 1st 3 singles on 7" at home, limited editions too. Dizgo Girl was their debut and Afrodisiac was the follow up. Quite good actually.

However I think this Powder are a different band altogether. Bit like Incubus were a hard rock outfit but now a soft rock combo.

I hope that 'Indie' rumour is just that. Its gonna jack the prices up for a bunch of bands I dont give a EDIT about!

I want the full festival experience though, get there Friday and leave Monday.

Just leave it be dammit!

Looks like the rumours were true

Ozzy! (http://www.ozzy.com/tour/index.php?mode=dates&tour_id=46)

Looks like we'll be getting Black Sabbath, Black Label Society et al.

Now thats confirmed it makes the whole Indie rumour bearable- just go 2 days (unless the whole things still £90!)

I saw powder at last years event and they certainly aren't indie or metal - its a woman singer with pink hair and its more of an erotic show with electro disco music - very cool indeed.

Not bad at all for me. Missed Slipknot and Slayer (the latter due to the stage mixup) last year, got no qualms about seeing VR again and Billy Idol? :notworthy And Sabbath of course.

Also Ticketmaster state that its 3 days. I hear that the official site may finally announce this evening!

That about bloody does it for me with these jokers. £127.50 is a total joke. And you see as usual they dont put up any day/2 day tickets for sale do they- got to sell the big ones the money hungry EDITS.

I had to book 2 weeks off work in June for nothing now.

Does anyone know about prices for Reading or Leeds this year? Donington has just lost my trade (but how Im going to get August bank holiday off work is beyond me)

I suppose another scenario is if they dont sell a ticket for Saturday and Sunday together but sell day tickets for £45 each. Buy 2 and snooze in your car.

According to the U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine, MEGADETH have been confirmed for this year's Download Festival.

MEGADETH, MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE and THE USED and will be joining FEEDER, GARBAGE and BILLY IDOL on Friday, June 10. The day will mark MEGADETH's final U.K. appearance before frontman Dave Mustaine disbands the seminal thrash group for good.

Motorhead & Mastodon have now been added to play the Snickers stage

along with In Flames, Chimaira, Bullet For My Valentine & Lamb Of God.

"Motorhead and Mastodon will play the Snickers Stage at this year's Download festival, with four other top bands set to make their mark at Donington.

In Flames and Lamb Of God will play their first ever Download festival, also on the Snickers Stage, whilst Chimaira and Bullet For My Valentine make a welcome return.

In Flames and Lamb Of God will be storming the Saturday, with the rest set to help bring the festival to a colossal close on the Sunday

But it looks like Motorhead & Mastodon will clash with SOAD & Slipknot.

OZZFEST DAY AT DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL TICKETS

To all of you who want to attend the OZZfest day of the Download Festival this summer but don't wish to purchase the £105.00 Weekend Pass ticket, there is another way. Right now you can only purchase the 3 Day Weekend Pass to Download. However in April single day tickets for OZZfest will become available for purchase. If you only desire to attend the OZZfest date then you only need to tough it out for six weeks. We are currently working with the promoters of the Download Festival to move this date forward as we were unaware of this ticket scenario.

With 3 stages it would be impossible to do. It's inevitable that many of the acts will clash, SOAD, Motorhead & Therapy? all headline the various stages on the Sunday night. They may not start & finish at the exactly the same time but it's impossible to catch all three. At best you might see the end of one of them.

Unfortunately, Mooney Suzuki have cancelled their appearance at Download, informing us that due to unforeseen circumstances they are unable to play. They are extremely disappointed (and so are we!) and apologise to their fans and they will hopefully be back in the UK soon.

However... I can exclusively announce that there will be a big surprise act on the line-up this year, who will not be revealed before the festival (hell, they won't even tell ME who it is!!) Last time this happened (in 2003), Metallica popped up on the second stage!

Theres all hell being raised on the Download forums about the camping tickets. Loads of people for some reason that escapes logic booked a weekend ticket and didnt book camping! Which they need to stay on the site after 2am each day.

So theyre all on the forums moaning and begging for more tickets to be released, even though the organisers issued repeated warnings about the camping tickets being near to sell out!

Why do people do this? Its not as if the organisers didnt try to get more spaces- the camping tickets sold out a few weeks ago and they rented out another field.

On a related note- the people on those forums going on about the secret band, its got to the point where I'd laugh if there wasn't one!

Thomasd

reggie- It was about Jan/Feb this year when details begain to surface.

Just seen this on Virtual Festivals, adding fuel to the secret band fire...

We can reveal that Download fans will be in for a very special surprise in the form of a band whose identity will not be revealed until they appear on-stage - plus we have other news about the festival!

The stage, day and time of this secret performance will be announced to visitors on arrival at the festival, which takes place at Donington Park from June 10-12. Interestingly, it is the band themselves that requested the secrecy, prefering to play to an unfamiliar crowd.

This echoes the legendary surprise appearance by Metallica who performed in the second stage tent, in the middle of the day, at the first ever Download in 2003. Whilst we understand that this year's mystery band is not of the same stature as Metallica, Download fans are certainly in for a massive treat.

Festival boss Andy Copping told us in a recent interview: "We have got something very special lined up. People are going to flip when they find out who. We always want to surpass expectations and put on something a bit out of the ordinary and I can’t think of any other festival that does that. We can’t say we’ll be able to put on a secret guest every year, but we’ll try! I guess we’ve created a bit of a Frankenstein’s monster in that respect."

We can also reveal that early birds arriving at Donington on the Thursday will be able to witness a special 5-a-side football tournament at 5pm, organised by Virtual Festivals and featuring teams that include the VF Crew, the festival organisers and fans. The 5-a-side pitch will be located in the Campsite Entertainment area and will be available for all to use throughout the weekend.

In other Download news, festival boss Andy Copping has exclusively told us that plans are afoot to expand the festival further, following this year's addition of a third day. In a recent interview, he disclosed that: "We’re currently talking with a few sites about twinning it like Reading/Leeds and V festival, but we’re also toying with the idea of having a Download festival in Europe as well. It’s certainly on our agenda."

Not as big in stature as Metallica, but people will "flip out" when they find out who it is? Hmm.

That kinda rules out a lot of Metal bands.

Maybe 'unfamiliar' means the crowd have no clue who its gonna be? It has to be on the main stage tho its gonna get crowded!

Now that would rock, but there would be too many angry emo kids chucking stuff I would have thought :oh-hum:

And the interview referenced a 'band' rather than a someone with a band (like the Godfather Of Soul and Bruce Dickinson). Don't know if I'm reading too much into it :dork:

I have no clue who it could be now, hopefully it will stay that way so it's a total suprise on the day!

That would be good for you guys if it was.

Society 1 go for record-breaking hooks hoist at Download!

... feel the suspense, squirm on tenderhooks!!

Shock-rockers Society 1 are preparing to make history yet again by breaking the world record for the longest set performed while a lead-singer is hung up by meat hooks!

Frontman Matt 'The Lord' Zane will perform on the Sunday, suspended from the rafters of the Main Stage by six
meathooks piercing into his flesh.

He will then proceed to sing an entire set worth of songs with
Society 1, aiming to beat the world record he set at LA's Key Club in March 2004.

Zane's Download suspension marks his first European suspension show and with the massive Download audience on hand to witness this event, it will also be the most-watched suspension in history.

I hope so, I'm guessing it would be afternoon one of the days not to clash with the headliners.

The rumours on the Download forum are getting well out of hand- Foo Fighters, Audioslave with special guest Zach De La Rocha, Motley Crue, GNR, Machine Head...madness!

We get the full timetable tomorrow so we can see who it clashes with (if anyone)

My money has been on Audioslave pretty much as soon as they announced a 'secret band'.

When it was said it was a new band and one that got big quickly that just cemented it for me.

Can't wait personally if it is them, last time I saw Mr Morello rock out live was at Reading 2000 with RATM....

Hope it is Audioslave... they be darned good :D

Your kidding right? I'm not driving up til Thursday night so I'll hopefully get the times before I leave. I'm most worried about (alledgedly) Anthrax clashing with Meshuggah. I'm torn between the two but as I'm an old fart it'll have to be Anthrax. So looking forward to seeing In Flames again. I wasn't even going til today, rang the missus up and asked if she fancied going, then promptly sniped the tickets on Ebay :) . We are staying offsite though so there'll be taxi fares to and from the site (at least I wont have to drive tho ;) )

I like FFAF but there will be a lot of disappointed people if this turns out to be true.

Why wouldn't they want to be announced prior to coming on?
What about the playing to an "unfamiliar audience" part? FFAF have played Download before.

I think it's certain that FFAF will be there (reports state that they are in the official programme) but I'm not 100% sure that they're the secret act :suspect:

The Download Dog is supposed to be an official source of info so I think people will be a bit peeved if it is all a distraction and the band turn out to be a big international act.

To be honest I just wish there was no stupid secret act as it just messes people around, Metallica was a nice one off and I see no real reason to have one unless they are exclusively contracted to another festival.

Got back late last night, what a weekend!! Highlights for me have to be In Flames on Saturday night, Megadeth and Anthrax sets were ace and Mastodon on Sunday ruled!! Due to the main stage running late we managed to see about 45 minutes of System Of A Down before heading for our taxi. What I saw of them though was excellent. Roll on next year!!

Heard a lot about people filling up bottles with stones and throwing them, whats that all about??? When we were watching Napalm Death on Friday night some idiot in front of us filled up a cup with his own urine and when he threw it, it fell out of his hands and showered all his mates with it, I had to laugh. :)

Awesome weekend! Highlights for me were Megadeth, Anthrax, VR, Sabbath, System, Slipknot and even though it was only 4 songs in the end Nightwish were amazing!

My full review, not including drunken escapades on fairground rides and in the awesome Aftershock Arena (hot tubs, pole dancers and mummies oh my!)

After waiting in a massive long queue we finally were allowed into the arena on Friday afternoon, where we walked past the main stage to catch what was left of Flogging Molly's set. Which was great fun- I had completely forgot how how many people could fit in the Snickers stage area!

Up next on the same stage was Fozzy who put on a great performance, but there is something missing about Fozzy. Its not the singing or the instruments- maybe the new songs they did havent grown on me yet.

Still on the Snickers stage one of my most anticipated bands of the entire festival Lordi and they didnt dissapoint- I don't know if it was just me or did the guitarists mask come off? They managed to pack in all the hits ending with 'Would You Love A Monsterman'.

After that we took a trot to the Snickers Bowl and we happened to catch most of Ellis' performance. From our vantage point they were a bit far away but having live music and skating/BMXing is a good idea. Had to admire their singers throwing himself about the stage and even going to the BMXer's mid-song.

Then it was time to head back to the Snickers stage to catch a bit of Apocalyptica who did 'Master Of Puppets' which I missed last time I saw them when they were supporting Rammstein. They followed that with a slow one, which didnt really go anywhere, but it was time to move on at that point anyway. As we were leaving I think they started 'Seek And Destroy'

We hit the main stage for the first time to see a cracking set by Megadeth. Dave Mustaine let the music do the talking as they only had 50 minutes and at the end seemed a bit choked up at the reception he got. Brilliant stuff- would have liked 'Peace Sells...' but can't be fussy :D

We took a bit of a break to get some munch and after that it was headliner time, our mate went off to see Feeder and me and my brother waited for The Used to finish their set. It was a sea of emo kids heading out we had to wade through  Then Billy Idol came on and proceeded to steal the entire festival with a blistering set containing all the old stuff you'd want to hear, the best of his cracking new album and some brilliant covers of Van Halen's 'Jump', The Who's 'Who Are You?' and a extended 'Mony Mony'. The man is a rock god and I'm sure he said something about coming back later in the year.

Our Saturday was all main stage stuff, starting with 'A' who were OK, just had a bit of a chill out when they played.

Bowling For Soup won everyone over with their infectious punk tunes and their hysterical between song banter. They were great :D

One of my favourite bands next, the rockin' Alter Bridge who did mostly the heavier songs from their album, finishing with a cover of Led Zeppelins 'Kashmir', I think they may have won over a lot of people.

Anthrax was next and the pit was utter madness. Especially 'Caught In A Mosh' suprisingly, brilliant comeback!

While waiting for the following act, we sat through HIM and they were pony. I cannot understand the appeal of them. Bad songs, and an idiot frontman who spent half the time trying to suck up to the crowd by saying how much he loved Black Sabbath.

Velvet Revolver were as usual brilliant, a cover of Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here' a highlight as well as Scott Weiland's rant about the Download name and his visit to the back of the crowd.

Then EVERYONE descended on the main stage to witness Black Sabbath who did not dissapoint, I could not believe how active Ozzy was, running about and even doing star jumps! The crowd surfing was a bit harsh loads landed on my head- was aching after it!

Last day started with us witness the awful Papa Roach with their arrogant ass of a lead singer. Not even worth a bottling tbh.

Killswitch Engage were next and the guitarist unleashed some of the most obscence and hilarious insults upon us (he wanted to put his evil inside all of us apparently). The music was rocking too :D

Then a massive long wait as we headed to the front. About an hour we were still there after watching a small child and a man dressed as a purple dog play air guitar and we also saw some breasts (a sign of things to come), then finally Nightwish hit the stage and even though they only could play 4 songs they were spectacular- I forgot how damn good they were and the singer is hot :D

We got the hell to the back before Slayer which was what you would expect- fast and brutal!

Then we went back in for Slipknot(and got hit by a wee bottle) which was mental, awesome levitating and spinning drum solo from Joey Jordison and the mental 'everyone in the crowd crouch down and jump up' was class.

Yet another long wait, which involved the crowd seeing more breasts than most people see in a lifetime. Also included girls kissing, girls pouring cola over their their breasts, and one even sticking her hand down her trousers while flashing. Great entertainment. I then got hit in the head with a full bottle of water. More on that later. System Of A Down then finally came out and did not stop for a breath. During the set a crowd surfer kicked me in the head in the same spot where I got hit by a bottle, cutting my head open- didnt really stop me. Daron from SOAD was mental- the hair, the clothes, the dancing, everything.

All in all a class weekend, and we actually got straight out of the venue and home by 2am Monday morning

Been hearing the tales of this since Monday, after my housemate's band played on one of the stages so had Access All Areas passes for them and a few mates.

By all accounts, Lemmy likes a custard cream or two, Slipknot are tiny and look like kids on Halloween, Kerry Kings biceps are about as big as he is tall and the singer from Papa Roach is conversely as nice as his band is good.

The warm-up area is apparently fun... a wall of just about amp & cab combo you could imagine and an opposite wall of 30-40 high-end guitars to plug in.

Incidentally, there's a free Toni & Guy area back there for the greasy rockers to have a quick tidy-up before hitting the stage. What has come of metal? Free haircuts backstage! :p
