I've always liked Green Day, but not enough to buy their old albums. I did buy Internaional Superhits, but I found that pretty hit and miss, so decided not to bother checking out their old stuff. However, American Idiot was my favourite album of last year, and the back catalogue is now £4.99 each at 101cd.com. So, should I invest my hard earned cash in this?

Go for it! £5 per cd is cheap, and you'll be getting some really decent stuff there. What albums are you looking at getting?

I'll never forget getting Dookie when it came out and i had never been so disappointed in an album before. Apart from the singles i found it extremely mediocre. Know a couple of people who felt exactly the same. American Idiot is leaps and bounds away from that.

Hmmm - what I was thinking. Are any of the old albums gonna grab my attention like American Idiot. Of the older tracks, Warning is probably my fave.

whaaat? dookie is a classic album!

if you want my opinion... they're all worth getting. the weakest is probably insomniac. there's also their first two albums on an indie label, lookout records, which are well worth picking up.

I just found it VERY over-rated.

Dookie is the album that got Green Day where they are today, IMO. It's their magnificent octopus, a truly great album, with some cracking songs on it. Insomniac is great too, with a bit of a harder edge to it than Dookie (I think it was a reaction to the massive commercial success of that album). Kerplunk and 1039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours are well worth a listen too, although the latter is more of a curio than anything. They do sound VERY young on those early records.

If you like American Idiot, I simply can't see why you wouldn't like Dookie. They're both three chord pop punk and even Billie Joe would say he's just playing the same riffs he always did.

And Dookie can't be overrated. It's the definitive album of its genre. Perhaps people are expecting too much.

Warning, 1039 Smoothed out Slappy Hours and American Idiot are good.

I didn't really like Dookie or Nimrod apart from a few standout songs. Despite being told how good these are, I only really like Basketcase and Time of my Life.

I think Warning is still my favourite.

lol, was Warning not liked then? That album was the first time I'd heard Greenday and I loved every track on it. :D

Yes, but when I find American Idiot ten times better than their previous greatest hits album, it does make me wonder.

If you didn't like Dookie, I don't think you'll like much of their back catalouge really, especially if you found Int Superhits hit and miss. 1039, Kerplunk, Dookie are basic three-chord punk type stuff, Insomniac is more of the same with a harder edge, Nimrod has some corkers on it, but some donkeys as well, Warning is probably my least favourite Green Day album.

I'd say Insomniac is the closest to American idiot myself, but maybe you'd be better just getting some bootlegs of them doing American Idiot album live, there are a few out there and they're ace.

I love Green Day, but I'm not going to force them on you or ejaculate over how ace they are because it won't change your opinion.
