View Full Version : Streets v Green Day - what one to buy?
Got a Mini Disc player for Xmas & have recorded a few cds for it & I have one mini disc that I cant get enough of.
It has Franz Ferdinand on first, then followed by Scissor Sisters (Im really surprised I like these, wife got the cd for Xmas & I just had to record it).
I have room for one more cd on the mini disc. I would like it to be something from the last year(ish). I think I have narrowed it down to The Streets or Green Day but cant decide so I have decided to ask you lot your advice.
Well what do you think?

not Green Day ;)
Not The Streets! ;)
If I HAD to choose one, I'd go Green Day, but I do like The Streets....
Green Day,the best album of last year,no question.

As both bands are completly different musically how can anyone decide?
I've enough money to buy one album, should it be Unbreakable by The Scorpions or the last Libertines release....
You don't know my musical tastes so how could you advise me???

Too right!...
Greenday! Then I can send you an album of me talking over some music and you can get the streets for free ;)
Of those two, definitely The Streets
The Streets, Green Day were good once, before they became another American teen college rock outfit.

If you want to listen to embarrassing sub-sixth form "poetry" and what i consider to be the least talented, most overhyped crap i've heard in years then the streets is for you.
If its a choice that has to be made then GreenDay win.
I like both but American Idiot is an amazing album and well worth owning.
Thanks for the info so far guys.
I do know that everybody's taste is different, but being that I have only heard the singles from each album I wanted a rough idea of what the rest of the tracks were like.
 George vader (& Dazzle); er I was not " advise(ing)" you on your "musical tastes" but asking other peoples on these two albums. If you have not got an opinion on them why bother to post in here?

It's not as if they are expensive.
Have got a few more disc's than I mentioned!
About 5 years ago I used to buy a cd on the strength on one track, but I have got such a collection of Turkeys that I now try & select them with a bit more care. I have found to my expense that buying loads of cds does not mean you are going to end up with loads of good ones!
Its just that the mini disc with Franz Ferdinand & Scissor Sisters on just really rocks me, & I want a good album to finish off this perfect mini disc.
Thanks for the info so far guys.

That's the whole point of the singles isn't it? To give you a taster of the album? Buy them both from cd-wow for £9 each, If you don't like them sell them on...

Well if you want my opinion here it is.....The Streets are indeed "embarrassing sub-sixth form "poetry"
and " the least talented, most overhyped crap i've heard in years"
Whilst the last Green Day album was my album of the year,
and one of the best rock albums I've heard for a very long time
(and I've been buying rock music since 1978!!)
The only think stoping me buying the Green Day album is that it might offer nothing different then other albums off its kind or I can listen to on Xfm.
Where as The Streets although not every ones cup of tea, it is different.

Green Day- awesome album but very mainstream too- my sister (an R'n'B fan) loves it as much as I do. Can't stand the Streets.

Green Day. Great album where every track is a good listen.
If you are going to buy a Streets album get Original Pirate Material. Far superior to the mess he released last year.
