View Full Version : Rock/pop bands with good female vocals...

I'm after some input from the musically knowledgeable forumites out there! My friends and I have recently started a band, doing a mixture of pop/rock/punk covers. We have a (so far) limited repertoir of songs, and I'm after some suggestions of bands/songs that we could cover. Thing is, we have a female vocalist, so ideally the songs would have to be in the right key for her to sing :D

Examples of what we've got so far:

Pink - Just Like A Pill
Nina - 99 Red Ballons
Blondie - Call Me
Girls Aloud - No Good Advice
Evanescence - Going Under
Avril Lavigne - Sk8er Boi
Echobelly - Great Things

Give me what you got!

Write your own songs. It's far more fun.

No Doubt - Just a girl/Don't speak
Garbage - I'm only happy when it rains/Special
Ashlee Simpson - Pieces of me /La la
Hole - celebrity skin
The Pixies - Gigantic
Siouxsie and the banshees - Hong kong garden/happy house
X ray spex - Identity
Penetration - Dont dictate
Elastica - Connected

More later if I remember...

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys, keep it up! Looking for a repertoire of about 25-30 songs, so the more the merrier (knowing the disparate tastes in the band, doubtless quite a few will be deemed unsuitable!) :D

Check out The Rockfords. They were a band put together by Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCreedy, and the female singer is amazing.

Julianne Regan is a fantastic singer, but pity her band have had to use backing tapes in the past - Good Shout.

How about the Sisters of Mercy with Ofra Haza.

How about the Sisters of Mercy with Ofra Haza.Only one song however, and I defy most people to warble as well as Ofra did.

That reminds me though, how about a bit of Berlin? Terri Nunn has a fantastic voice.

Sarah Cracknell from St Etienne has a lovely voice.
Patti Smith for the throaty growl.
Marianne Faithful - Silky, smooth.
Nina Persson of The Cardigans - Beguiling voice.
Joni Mitchell - Well it's Joni Mitchell isn't it. Sweet, fragile and tranquil sounding voice.
Chrissie Hynde - A different kind of voice to all of the above. Unique.
