LOVE music from the early 90's, have been listening this morning to

Mmm Mmm Mmm - Crash Test Dummies
Birdhouse In Your Soul - They Might Be Giants
Pearl Jam
Elvis Costello
Tempted - Squeeze

But I have SO much space left! Any recommendations?

The first two songs on there mate are class.
If I was to fill an ipod with early 90's stuff id go for the Britpop/Indie scene. Get a bit of The Levellers and Suede on there, No Rain by Blind Melon. Then ofcourse Id fill the remaining 39.7 gig up with Guns n Roses and Velvet Revolver (Off to see them tonight, can't wait) but thats just me!!

Enjoy filling it up mate.

You're going to have a really hard time with just singles.

Just put everything you own and some more on it :D

So far I have 4313 songs, 3345 photos and still have 35.7gb free :dork:

Well, I was going to put everything I own on there, but what's the point? So, I have only put stuff I really like on there. I would rather go slow and fill it up with things I want to listen to.

So far, I have 807 songs, so I really need your help!

What's the point of a large capacity mp3 if you don't fill it? I thought Itunes had a rating system anyway if you just want to listen to your favourites?

What's the point? I'm a hopeless victim of advertising and want to be cool.

Accept that you will never be truly cool, and then relax and only put on tunes you actually like. It'll take a long time to fill it, but who's in a rush?
Alternatively continue in your feeble attempt to be seen as hip and load it full of obscure bands that no-one has ever heard of and then go on about them endlessly. Once one of your friends buys one of the albums, you must dismiss the band as 'sold out' and remove it from your ipod at once. You won't actually be seen as cool by any of you friends and colleagues, but you'll think you are, and self delusion is the key to life.

Haha. The above is so true. I actually like to keep a lot of stuff on mine so if people are talking about a band we can put it on (also carry with me a cable to connect it)

I have a rio karma though, so the quality through a hi fi is acceptable ;)

Well, wanting to be cool is why I bought it in the first place. Now I am on some OCD-fuelled mission to fill it.

Stone Temple Pilots (PJ wanna bees)
The Pogues, best of (Mostly EC Produced)
Nirvana
Alice In Chains
Puddle of Mudd
Counting Crows 1st Album
Powderfinger

A Major hint make sure you back up your IPOD, it will save heartbreak in the future

Albums you must put on there:

Jeff Buckley - Grace
Jeff Buckley - Live at Sine-e
Jeff Buckley - Sketches for my sweetheart the drunk
Spin Doctors - Pocket full of Kryptonite
Chemical Brothers - Dig your own Hole

I cant even begin to list anymore! As you can probably tell, I have a Jeff Buckley obsession at the moment!
All Early chemical brothers stuff is good, some early metallica is good (if you like that sort of thing!!), Guns and Roses and Velvet Revolver (seeing them on Friday!)

You need to start sticking some albums on it! Singles are good, but listening to a whole album by an artist is so much better!

Thanks for the suggestions! I have loads of STP on there already, and I am not a big fan of the Pogues. Nirvana, Alice In Chains and Counting Crows are on there too.

Not a fan of Puddle Of Mudd - but who are Powderfinger?

Powderfinger are an Aussie band! - I have one of their albums (odyssey no. 5) and it is fairly good! Not heard any recent stuff!

PS How hard is the word odyssey to spell?

Trying to think what's hip or obscure about his choices so far. ;)

Crash Test Dummies are :gag:

How about adding some of these

Explosions In the Sky - The Earth is Not A Cold Dead Place
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Abbatoir Blues/The Lyre Of Orpheus
Idlewild - 100 Broken Windows
Rammstein - Mutter
Elbow - Asleep In The Back
PJ Harvey - Stories From the City, Stories From The Sea
Johnny Cash - American IV: The Man Comes Around
Sun Kil Moon - Ghosts of The Great Highway
Low - Secret Name
Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros - Rock Art & The X-Ray Style
Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath

That should do you for a while

I think you need some Pixies and Tom Waits on there! In the early 90s I was listened to the Dirty album by Sonic Youth, Mudhoney, Ministry, Supersuckers, Lemonheads and The Breeders a lot.

My most listened to album on my Zen at the moment is The Dresden Dolls.

Lots of stuff on my playlists is from around then. Just as a random selection I can recommend...
Ben Folds Five - Whatever and Ever Amen
Black Grape - It's great when your straight....
Teenage Fanclub - Grand Prix
Elastica - Elastica
They Might Be Giants - Lincoln
Probably not all of them fit into the early 90's catagory, but worth a listen all the same. I can particularly recommend Lincoln - IMHO TMBG's best album, got some real classics on there.
If you are really in to getting particular singles, snap up a bunch of those "Greatest Indie Anthem" compilations - I got loads of one offs I loved at the time (Kingmaker, Belly, The Wannadies) but didnt love enough to commit to buying the whole cd. You can always stick them on ebay later and its cheaper than Itunes!

Ray LaMontagne
Secret Machine
American Music Club
Tom Waits
Mark Lannegan
Razorlight
Bloc Party

totally loving 'Bright Eyes' at the moment. 'Daydream nation' by Sonic Youth is also amazing.
