View Full Version : [Tennis]Australian Open 2005.
Suprised a thread wasn't already started for the first Major of the year.
Can't see past Fed for the Mens title and my tip for the Women's title is Alicia Molik.

Sherapova or Serena for the womens title I think.
Nice to see Elena Baltcha getting through the qualies and winning her first round match. In round 2 she will play someone only ranked about 105 so she might go even further.
Rusedksi is on tonight at midnight and Henman is on tomorrow morning at 8.30.
Shame about Justine, Kim and Jenny not taking part, all three could have taken the title.
Henman has a good draw this year. He should get Roddick in QF who he has a decent chnace of beating, then Coria or Hewitt in SF. Hewitt would kill Henman but I'd take Henman over Coria. Whether you fancy a public thrashing from Federer in the final though is another matter. Federer is the number 1 sportsman on the planet at the moment and thankfully he's doing it with bags of style. Hopefully kids will want to emulate him and we'll get a generation of all court 1 handed BH shotmakers following him rather than more monotonous baseline sluggers.
I'd like to see Molik have a good run too but something tells me Mauresmo won't bottle it this time.
Henman and Rusedski both through to round two.
Henman winning against Cyril Saulnier 6-1 6-2 4-6 6-3.
Rusedski winning against Jonas Bjorkman 2-6 6-4 6-0 7-6

Good showing from Greg after a slow start...would be so good to see him have a good run and stay free from injuries. Getting past Roddick will be very tough, but not impossible.

Hard to see past the great Federer for this one. He may have a tough quarter and semi against Agassi and Safin respectively but the finalist from the other half will be Roddick or Hewitt, both of whom Federer completely owns.
No women pics yet :suspect:
No Williams brothers pics please :nono: :gag:.
Great to see Elena Baltacha winning her 2nd round match in the small hours this morning, she's got a good chance in the next round too, would be great to see a British woman do reasonably well in a Slam

Aye, well done to the Scottish lassie. ;)
First British woman to reach the 3rd round in 14 years. She might have a chance of going further as she now plays the 15th seed Silvia Farina Elia - could have been harder.
Henman is on in the wee hours tomorrow but Rusedski - Roddick should be on about 10am tomorrow. :)
How much as she earned now then last round was about 15k ?
Would love to see Rusedski do well, but it's hard to see him getting past Roddick, even if he (Roddick) hasn't been playing as well as he has done recently
Well this looks interesting Rusedski lost the first set 6-0 and a rout looked on the cards but he's fought back well to take the 2nd 6-3. Let's see if he can keep that going
I think Rusedski took a bit of a pasting according to the stats. ARod had something like 16 break points compared to 2 and compared to Rusedski won 50% more points over the whole match. Rusedski didn't seem to be volleying deep enough and Roddick was hitting a lot of great passing shots. Henman will have to S+V better to hold his serve against Roddick.

Henmans match is now live on BBC1 as well as Eurosport.
Starts at midnight.
Looks like Henman got thrashed, oh well...
Hope the Federer Express wins, never seen someone so elegant yet so awsome on court.
Fed v Agassi should be a treat.
Sad to see the vile Hewitt winning again - I really thought Nadal would take him out today.

Hewitt is an annoying little so-and-so but his mental strength is extraordinary. If Henman had possessed a will-to-win and a refusal to accept defeat like Hewitt his career would have been very different.
You may well be right but even if Hewitt gets past Nalbandian and (probably) Roddick, Fed will kick his backside in the final.

.............. if Federer gets there - his semi-final against Safin is just entering a fifth set!

I think Roddick will win it now.
Hewitt beats Roddick. The horrid little scrote will be unbearable if he wins it. I'm becoming a very big Safin fan all of a sudden.
