BDO or PDC

What's the proper Darts championship? I know the BDO and PDC are both the world titles, but which one is considerd the better of the 2?

Don't have sky sports so I've never watched the PDC one, so I've always thought of the BDO as the better championship, but that's only because ive never seen the other one. The BDO seems more competative though, Phil Taylor always wins the other one.

Also why did they split in the first place? Wouldn't it be good for the sport and the fans to have them mixed again? I would like to see that. Do they ever do tournaments when they all play together?

Some of the leading players such as Lowe, Bristow, Taylor caused the split back in 93 IIRC.

PDC is the better one imo .

Personnally I prefer the BDO event, probably because it's the older of the two and open to anyone anywhere - I've played (badly:() in the qualifers on the IOW.

I've watched them both for a few years and the PDC players usually have better averages. But once you get to the semis/finals they are of similar quality.

There isn't much doubt that the PDC are the better players.

Taylor has thrashed 2 of the BDO champs in one off event.
Also, many of the better BDO players have switched codes to the PDC - Part, Painter, Baxter, Mardle?, and more.

Funny I just found that link the very second you posted it. It seems peoples oppinions are firmly split down the middle. I've never watched the PDC event so don't feel I can comment on it.

It's a shame really, it would be good to see the 2 merge again and compete in one championship. Doesn't seem likely but it would still be cool.

Thing is though - Taylor is a league above the rest. Also in the PDC it is more likely that the top players will always get to the events as AFAIK they're closed, whereas for the BDO you need points from other tournaments to get a place (last 4 excepted), so run the risk of getting knocked out by up and coming unknown players and not getting enough, as it is more of an open event (think of the PDC as like the League Cup where only certain standard clubs can enter, and the BDO the FA Cup where any teams can enter).
