I've had my Criterion disc for 2+ years and it only cost £13!
No regrets here :D
so are we saying here, that the Directors Cut on the new R2 is the Criterion version with the extra bits/gore? I know it's pretty clear that it is but it's just that this is Region 2 and you know what it's like - there's bound to be a catch somewhere....!!
Lol no catch, the R2 version will have ALL the extra gore found on the Criterion disc, only it will be anamorphic (Criterion is not) and have a new DD 5.1 soundtrack (Criterion has a DS soundtrack), plus there are more extras than those found on the Criterion disc, including a new doco entitled Flesh & Steel
The 4 deleted scenes on the R2UK DC disc will be able to be viewed in film via seamless branching according to DVD Review mag.

luvvly! thought so, it's just I remember all the talk of a couple of months ago re the BBFC and which version of Robocop had been classified, etc.....I have a Criterion copy and it might be on the verge of replacement now! The DS sountrack is still pretty cool, but a DD5.1 sounds great!

Cool... but...
What ratio is it?
The Criterion is supposedly director approved(preferred?) 1.66:1, but the cinema release (and non-Criterion discs) was cropped to 1.85:1.
Is this version anamorphic and 1.66:1? That really would be fantastic :D (as any Sony WEGA owner should know, 14:9 mode, which is the nearest one you can use for 1.66:1, is not 1.66:1... 14 divided by 9 is 1.55:1 - result... a windowbox picture!. Plus the quality on a 50Hz telly isn't too great in 14:9 mode especially NTSC).
So, anyone want to make an offer on an OOP Criterion copy of Robocop? :D Hmm, not sure I want to sell it, might be worth holding on, don't know.
prolly worth hanging on to the Criterion for now.... seeing as that article mentions that the R2 box will be "something special"
i remember them saying that about the Stargate box too
