I cannot get my NEC 2500 to burn faster than 4 speed even when using 8 speed disc's. I am running software 1.06. Can anyone help me.

I have the same burner as you and I use Verbatim DVD+R's (8X certified).

They burn at 8 speed, so Nero tells me, but in time it takes approx 10 minutes to burn a full dvd at 8x and 15 minutes at 4x. I was expecting 7 minutes for 8x burning. :thinking:

its not 8x all the way. it starts at 4, jumps to 6 then up to 8x closer to the end. so 10 odd mins is about right for that writer.

plus it doesnt matter what the disks say. its down to the firmware on the writer to decide what speed the disks gets burnt at. if the firmware says your disks get burnt at 4 or 6 speed. then you wont get 8x out of it without changing firmware

manufacturers limit which media burns at what speed through firmware. Its down to tie ins. as suggested upgrade the firmware to one that unlocks the burning.
