View Full Version : Sky Starter Pack 9.99 @ Woolys
Woolworths are selling the Sky Starter Pack for a bargain price of <s>8.99</s> 9.99 instead of the usual 39.99. This is basically a pack that gives you either 1 month of all the channels or 2 months of the family pack for free + remote + installation. After the 1/2 month you can choose what package you want and pay the remaining 10/11 month of the contract.
This is great for people who were thinking of getting FreeSat from SKY or the lowest Value Pack.
freeSat from SKy cost 150 pounds which includes installation.
The value pack, this would cost you normally 13.50*12 + 60 (installation) = 222 pounds
8.99 (Getting the starter pack) + 2 months of family pack + 10*13.50 (value pack)= 144 pounds meaning you get more channels for the 12 months and its cheaper than getting freesat from sky and the lowest value pack.
Hope that makes sense, sorry i couldnt affiliate the link :)
EDIT by Kryten: - Now 9.99

i take it that this still has to be connected to the phone line?

How is this installed? Is it DIY?
u get a code in the box and a remote. u ring up sky withthe reference code and they come round and fit it for you
does it include a sky remote? may be a cheapish way of getting a new one.

Is this just open to new customers ?
Thanks
Daniel
yep it does include the remote, i was thinking the exact same thing actually after seeing the price of it on ebay
it is only open for new customers of sky
This was posted a few weeks back but I can't find the original thread - If I remember rightly the poster had got his starter kit from Tescos at the £8.99 price. Other people had gone into thier local tescos only to be greeted with blank faces from the staff.
The point which was made think before giving these as xmas pressies, as the recipient will then be tied into the contractual outlay of the further subscription.

I personally wouldn't worry about that. I never bothered connecting mine up to the phone socket, neither did my Mum, my sister or anyone else we know. Installers couldn't care less and Sky don't seem to be bothered unless you have a second room subscription.

mine was instore however there do seem to be many avaliable
Just picked one up, they are labelled up now at 9.99 in Woolworths. Was in the Derby one and they had stock this morning.
It also works to be about the same price online at Sky Digital (http://skytv.at/thedvdforums) as they have 3 month's half price (that's actually better if you want to take the higher packs - I just want the Family Pack)
Sorry to high jack the thread but I was wondering - Do Sky do a short term contract (i.e. not 12 months) as long as you have a dish i.e. just need a box and activation as we are in rented house with a v.poor reception tv signal?

Minimum contract is 12 months no matter what you need/take.
I had a box and dish but still had to sign up for 12 months contract.

I asked and its 40 quid to move to a new location though (that includes fitting of a new dish) at the moment. Just take you box and leads etc.
I just need a new remote control, can I buy this without having to give my details or sign up for a 12-month contract?

 All it actually has is a pamflet in with a phone number and a code to tell them (not even sure the code is unique :suspect: ). The remote is in the box and works fine. I got one with the install too so now have two remotes
have i got this right.... if i buy the starter pack for £9.99... then have the family pack for the remaining 10 months @ 13.50 per month means that if i take the sub for a year it will cost a total of £144.99. Then if i cancel the sub after 12 months, i can keep the satellite dish and digibox and have freesat in 2006 and for ever after that?
plus... this would be for my boyfriend's house... he doesn't actually have a landline connected but has a dead bt socket, does the install engineer check the phoneline is working during the install? i know you are supposed to have a phone but lots of people are saying it's not necessary unless you want ppv

I think so, I went for the 19.50 package as I wanted the channels that come with it. The package includes 2 months of the Family Pack (19.50) in it, not sure if you can downgrade after or not though.
yes you can downgrade to the basic 13.50 option after the 2 months of family pack- thats what im doing :)
Slightly off topic but Argos (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-582776-10294381) have it for £9.99 as well, and they say in their sale leaflet that you can get all channels from Freeview and Top-Up TV, and more. I know I'm being picky but abc1 is not available on Sky. Index (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://www.tkqlhce.com/click-582776-5032885) is worse as they still think you can get TV Travel Shop on Freeview!
yep, its a 12 month contract and needs to be connected to a phone line
When I had my Mums Sky installed we had it done by a local Independent retailer.
When their man came out to do the installation he did not connect the line to the phone line. When I asked him that it needs to be as per the Contract he replied "They never check anyway, don't worry about it".
Mums had Sky for over a year and a half now and in that time the Phone lines never been connected and she recieved one letter asking her to plug her phone line back in - she didn't never heard from them again.
Happily viewing since installed.
LUCK or a just a Ploy from SKY to entice customers to use interactive services that are NOT free??

Is it possible to cancel with Sky, and signup again in the name of someone else in the household (although they have the same surname) ???
Would this get us a new box, and this offer ?
Thanks

No the second card has to be married to a box that is connected to an active phone line registered to the account address.

I think I might go for this and ditch NTL before they bring in the broadband usage caps. If I buy the starter pack is there a time limit for the free installation, or does it last indefinately?

does it last indefinately?
There's nothing contained in the pack that would suggest it isnt indefinite. I dont think for a second Sky would refuse it even if there was to be honest, they want new customers!
