Is there such a thing as a cheap entrance to Dolby Digital ?.
Not looking for top of the range sound system, but still something fairly decent for the money.

Hi All i was sort of wondering this too as ive saw a Sanyo 32" tv which is Dolby but the dolby is in built in speakers in which they point at a certain angle. I was wondering if this type if dolby tv is as good as the type that has separate speakers. This tv is only £499

Peter I suspect the Sanyo TV you saw was ProLogic only, as they don't currently have a Dolby Digital TV.

There are a variety of cheap entries into the world of Dolby Digital - from as low as £80 to, well, as much as you can afford I suppose. Problem is, pay cheap get cheap.

Yamaha VS10 (list price £349, but shop around) is probably a good choice. for starters.

The Yammy 420RDS receiver (DD/DTS) and NSPxxx speaker set is a pretty good starter seperates set by all accounts. I think it's around £400.

Of course you could go Digitheatre (DD) for ~£200 or Digitheatre (DTS) for £350.

Richer Sounds (http://www.richersounds.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?load=frame) are doing the Gale Moviestar 5 speaker set for £119.95!! Does anyone know if these are decent entry level speakers?
Nice & cheap though Jimmy!

If your looking for a cheap system with good performance then might I suggest the following :

Kenwood 5050 from Richer Sounds - get them to price match the silver version off qed for £156 and you should get it delivered for £146 - I did.
Eltax Stargate X.1's from qed - £109 delivered.

So for under £250 delivered a 5.1/DTS system with subwoofer and nice 5 speaker surrounds.

You can't go wrong fot that price!

Whoops - the 't' is far too close to the 'r' on my keyboard!

Try finding the original Videologic system. It has a fairly good sound for the price, £200. You should be able to pick up a second hand unit for arround £100 or so.

The main thing agenst this is no upgrade path.
