I have the new Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 10 200GB and while its pretty fast its very noisy probably best to go for the Seagate 7200.7 or 7200.8

Or Samsung :)

http://www.pcwcomponentcentre.co.uk/invt/sp1604n&bklist=page,1 had the 160Gb model for less than £40! but currently OOS

Also a few of us here actually got the 8mb cache model shipped [SP161 4] for the same price, although there's no guarantee that future orders would be the same.

If you can wait, they seem to get stock regularly which sells out pretty quickly on the well priced stuff.

The samsung spinpoint 160Gb is £55 at simply. I doubt PCW will get any more stock at £40. Extremely quiet and has a 3 year warranty.

My 120gb Western Digital Caviar SE has done a fine job and I'd say it's damn quiet.

Why's no one mentioned it
