I just saw this film and loved it, I understood the jokes etc apart from one.
Why was Robin Hood shown as being French?
Any particular reason or just for the sake of it.

Why was Shrek Scottish?
I think it's called artistic licence.

The way I see it , it may be a cynical view of the fact that such a traditional and timeless english story, the main character was played by an american with a dodgy accent in Prince Of Theives. Take it one stage further and use the traditional age-old english rivals to play the main parts....kinda ironic - or at least I thought so, anyway :)
At least, that was my interpretation.
Wasn't the Scottish voice the same, or near as the same, to Fat B*stard in Austin Powers 2?

It was more like Charlie's dad from So I Married An Axe Murderer...

I'n not a historian or anything, but I think that although the basis of the Robin Hood legend is an english bloke, the romantic literary creation was done by french minstrels (not the chocs).
