If it's to be used on a stand alone DVD player, then it depends on what the player can use. If you're not sure, post the Model of your dvd player and I'm sure someone will be able to help! As it happend DVD+R tends to be the more compattible of the two, but it really does depend on your player.

really, i've found - to be more compatable. Especially with older stand alone dvd players.

It does indeed on the player, but according to figures, - is actually more compatable than +. Not by much however (and that was in the early days of release).

Personally i would say it's down to the quality of the disc. If it was down to me, i'd use a decent quality 4x - disc using G04 die.

Sorry yeh.. Dye... it's the material/manufacturer that the writing side of the disc is made from.

if you look under each disc at Svp it states something like "ADVDINFO: .RITEKG..04", shich means that ADVINFO reports that the Dye is RITEK G04.

It's really down to the machine , and some are better than others, so experiment, but from general practical experience try the G04 first :)

I looked at this website http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php and it looks like all my dvd players, bush, sony davs 300, ps2, pioneer etc play both the dvd- and dvd+ format

does that mean i can go for either one then?

In the early days -R was more compatible, but now most writers support bitsetting for +R. So when you put the disc in a player instead of being detected as a "DVD+R" it is detected as "DVD-Rom" and therefore compatibility is pretty much guarenteed.
