I have a 32 ich JVC flat screen (AV32WFT1), a pioneer DV545 and a videologic digitheatre DD. I am using a standard RGB scart to connect the DVD to the TV and the standard coaxial audio lead that came with the digitheatre to connect the decoder to the DVD. My question is whether it is worth buying a high quality scart lead and a high quality optical audio cable? If the answer is I should buy new cables can you make some recomendations. Thanks

Also do people put up with RGB picture shift or do they use SVIDEO?

The benefits of a good scart lead will probably be visible to most people, although this depends on quality of source and tv. Many have stated a cheap scart from argos is as good as any ixos cable they have seen. I suspect replacing the co-ax lead will be an exercise in futility as this will probably not make any difference to you except the knowledge you have a decent lead. Some people need this reassurance, personally I don't and am using a video co-ax that came with a pc dvd hardware card on mine (same impedance). Optical cables offer no advantages over co-ax other than cost (check the prices of digital co-ax compared to an optical lead by a reputable manufacturer).

Regarding the RGB issue, that is a fault and not somthing that should be endured. If you are out of your warrany period and don't want to spend on an engineers visit, then I suppose svideo is an alternative. You may even prefer the picture you get. However, a properly adjusted tv should not shift when an alternative input is selected...

Hope this helps. :)

Ditto, except to say that if RGB shift is a fault, then it's a very common one!
I suppose it depends how far it shifts as to whether it's that much of a bother.

I have suffered this for years!! Just figured it was "unfixable" I have a quite old Sony kv25 telly and when rgb is selected I get a picture shift to the left!

Anyone know how to fix this CHEAPLY! or is it as I first thought UNFIXABLE??

Of course but you don't need to buy into expensive looking stuff. Quality SCART leads can be bought for £5-£10. The word quality is subjective of course but I have £5 and £40 leads and there's no difference (except the £50 lead is too heavy and damages my SCART sockets and £35 more expensive).

I'm sure it's unfixable. Only thing I know to do is on a Sony tv. If you select rgb as oposed to the first scart channel, it moves the picture over to the right more than the standard scart channel.

Worked on my last 2 Sony's.

I'm with APPRIA40WR on this one,i'm using the £5 gold plated scart from argos and the picture is great,if you really want better quality argos sell an oxygen free lead for £14.99,doubt it will improve the picture but as it's from argos you can always try it then take it back if it doesn't.

With my Sony TV you can adjust the screen position in the setup menus to compensate for RGB shift.

You can get a very nice 10m lead from Beyond HiFi (http://www.beyondhifi.net/shopping/MoreInfo.asp?ProductID=418&CatID=102)
