Moulin Rouge
R1 V R2 V R4
I think the R4 is out a bit earlier but does anyone know what the differences will be beyween the regions? Might plump for R4 as it will be cheaper but want the best package!
Cheers all
According to this article at DVD Times (http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/index.cgi?page=News&id=2363) , the R2 extras have been cut.
Of course, we don't know what the R1 and R4 extras will be like...
won't the r2 be getting a good old rental window ?
Ive gone for R4, cheap, early, and DTS :D

I'm going for the Region 4 reviewed here (http://www.dvd.net.au/review.cgi?review_id=1070) ( link (http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33392) originally posted by utero)

R4 all the way - great package, even better price :)
do we not have Region 1 DTS confirmation yet? I must admit, I'm a sucker for those three wonderful letters, but I have already ordered the R1 on the (rather large) assumption that it'll be the best all round package. If only R4 has DTS (ala The Mummy et al), I've gotta make a quick alteration to my order!

Never seen Moulin Rouge but only heard good things.
What is the appeal?

Personally speaking it looks very 'gay' :D so it looks enjoyable. It's the same director that did Strictly Ballroom (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0105488), it's got Jim Broadbent (http://us.imdb.com/Name?Broadbent,+Jim) in it (who is a great actor IMO) and the CD soundtrack is quite brilliant. It's gotta be worth a go at £15.

I didn't see in the article any mention of the extras being cut for R2 at the BBFC. We don't know if this list is complete, and I haven't been able to find the running times of the R4 extras to see if they've been cut or not.
The region 4 version is DTS isnt it? Looks pretty good but is the region 1 going to be better?

Please can someone confirm the specs of the R1?
Peter Staddon from Fox has confirmed at HTF, that the r1 version does contain DTS and that the aspect ratio is 2.35:1.
Hope this helps

I've just seen that Play have the release date for the R2 Moulin Rouge! as 4th March 2002, but no list of the extras. I was waiting on getting the R2 specs. before deciding which region to buy.
Also, does anyone know anything about the "Red Curtain" trilogy and what will be included on that?

What style of case does R4 come in? I like the R1 cardboard fold out job. Is it like that?

"The Red Curtain" trilogy just refers to Baz Luhrmanns last 3 films ie. "Strictly Ballroom","Romeo & Juliet" and "Moulin Rouge" - ie. the 'style' of the films.

Yeah, can't go wrong with the R4.
EDIT: The details in DVD Profiler (below) are wrong, it is 15 rated and 2.35:1.

This was posted on uk.media.dvd
"Looks like the R4 version for me too - though being a smarty pants, I got the R1 vers because I didn't think I could handle the speed up of the music on the R4 version. I'd be curious if anyone thinks its an issue on this film
... I mean the thing goes like a rocket at normal speed!!!!"
Does the R4 run faster?
I didn`t see the film at the cinema, it seems O.K to me.

Hey guys,
what differences are there in terms of extras for R1 vs R4? I don't think it was mentioned in any of the posts here and Rewind is unusable at the moment.

There isn't any difference. I compared my R4 with a review of the R1 thoroughly and there aren't any differences (other than the fact that R4 is in PAL).
Re-wind had the extras for R4 listed as different anyway (eg it didn't mention that R4 has a commentary)
R4 doesn't have any subtitles (if that is an issue for any of you) and also only has English audio. The R1 versions have Spanish and/or French language tracks as well.
Does anyone know how many easter eggs there are in total and whether they are the same on R1 and R4?
R4 pic is perfect btw and for the first time ever I didn't notice the speed up on a musical! Excellent work by Fox!

It seems as though the R4 doesn`t have any Easter Eggs
Looking here http://www.bytesandbobs.com/dvdcompare/comparison.asp?T=1202
That comparison is all wrong!
They both have OAR, DTS and BOTH commentaries!
Also R4 does have Easter Eggs!
I've found 3 so far (I just wanna know how many there are overall!).

Are you going to post the eggs:clap:
Can someone confirm R4 definately has DTS? The packaging states plain old 5.1 - anyone opened theirs up and actually had a DTS sound option???

...and boy does it sound good!
Watched the R4 last night and loved it - my favourite for 2001. As for the DTS soundtrack - well I only buy DTS versions if available and am in the minority group that possibly prefers 5.1 but last night I had to get up and turn the Sub down for the first time ever - mega impact. Kept thinking through the whole film ' I hope there are no scenes which will make this inappropriate for my 4y/o son as I must turn that sub back up and let rip tomorrow'. Very very impressive ... my one criticism is the love song chosen for them which didn't quite catch me as it should have :(

can i get the R4 for cheaper than £13.30 @ dvdcrave.com? and that's with the 10% discount code?
also, and i dont know why, no info to back up this statement: i get the impression that they'll be a future re-release or update of moulin rouge. *shrugs. nevermind me, i'm babling..
does it feature that documentary following baz luhrman which was shown on BBC 2 after the kubrick docs a while back..?
i think it was called "show must go on" or something.. and was pretty candid and pretty insightful. i knew i shoulda taped it! why didn't i?
[edit] it matters not! gone with DVD Crave, @ £13.30 !
Try DeVoteD (http://devoted.com.au ) or Chaos (http://chaosmusic.com) :D

hmm..
i prefer the cover of the R1.
and R1 has two commentaries? does R4 have two commentaries?
Moulin Rouge R1 and R4 are identical. Only differences are the cover art and the PAL/NTSC-picture. Oh, and some minor differences: R4 has no subtitles at all, but instead an audio track for the visually impaired. The R1-version has english subtitles and a foreign language track.
The above means that the R4-version indeed contains 2 audio commentaries and all the easter eggs from the R1-version.
DVDreview.com has 8 easter eggs listed, and I have tried them all on the R4-disc and they are all there! (Notice when followering the DVDreview.com directions: Sometimes you have to press the "left" key instead of the "right" key on the R4-version)
BTW, speaking of easter eggs, have anyone found more eggs than listed here (http://www.dvdreview.com/eastereggs/collect/351.html)? In the R1 press release it was mentioned that the DVD contained more than 10 easter eggs....which means....11?????.....or more??????
There are 15 easter eggs.
You can find them here (http://dvd.ign.com/articles/316901p1.html)
