I would like to start my own website for selling items. I am no computer whizz kid so would like something straightforward with a step by step guide. Also at no cost! Can anyone recommend where to start?

whilst oscommerce is great, it requires a fair bit of computer work to get it installed and working ;)

Another vote for eBay (http://www.tkqlhce.com/click-582776-5048476)

You can use paypal without using something like oscommerce, something like this (http://www.dorothybradbury.co.uk/) site has done (I have absolutely no link with this site, just used them before and recall its payment scheme)

Get a host with fantastico it's just a 1 click install for oscommerce then.

Even so, you still need a fairly good knowledge of editing php files to make it look ok and how to make certain files read only and to delete files after the initial installtion ;)

I guess it depends on how much Teresa60 can do computer wise

If you are prepared for the time to put in, oscommerce is great.

True you do need some knowledge of php but not a lot, dont have a clue couldnt write php but have done 2 oscommece sites. The support forum is filled with helpful people :)

Get yourself over to Hosting Unlimited (http://www.hosting-unlimited.net) ....go for the £20 a year package, they have the afore mentioned Fantastico (a couple of clicks to install a script) which includes oscommerce.
Very good value and CS.

You might like to mention me when you sign up ;)

Again, just to echo what movaado said. You still need some knowledge to be able to edit the site the way you want it to look.
For you to have a website you want to sell items on, it's never gonna be easy.

Stick with ebay!

the company we not talk about site is an oscommerce, if you want to see one in action.

Not a very good example though :)

I've seem a website somewhere which has loads of php software installed (like oscommerce) and they supply you with an admin user & pass so that you can play with the admin side of the software to see how it works and if it does what you need. It might be useful for you to have a play with it and see what you think.

Admittedly, it would be even more useful if I could remember the website address! Sadly I can't and have had no luck searching for it. But perhaps someone else knows it?

Another one for Oscommerce. Most hosts with Cpanel (and the latest Plesk and Ensim) will have it pre installed. One click and your away.

Can take nochex and paypal payments. I have done a couple of Oscommerce sites in teh past and using one at the moment, with minimal modifacations to it. (just replace the standard logo)
