View Full Version : Have I destroyed my HDD
I've built a new PC, put in a 80gb Samsung HDD. Started to install Windows XP, partioned the drive into 25gb and 55gb. All went well until when the installation was over, starting up XP and checking the drives, I discovered only the 25gb drive was visible. I've tried taking the HDD out and puting it in my over PC as a slave and formatting it, but it just formats as a 25gb drive.
How if possible do I return it to the original 80gb drive?
Please help :help: :?:
Not really sure about this, but can you see the [other]partition in Disk Management [via Control Panel]?
Maybe it needs to be initiallised.
Other than that, if you want to start from scratch again, would it not be possible to delete the partition again - option would be given if you try again to boot from XP CD.
Disk Management just sees a 25gb drive
I'll try putting the drive back in the new build tomorrow and try installin XP again.

You did create a 55G drive didn't you - if you didn't it would show as free space at the end of the disk, and you could then create a new partition.

In Disk Managment its showing disk 0 (which is my original drive) as split into to partions and disk 1 (which is the new drive) as a single 25gb drive.
Is there a piece of software that can restore drives to their original state?

Gotta agree with the above. When performing an install XP will only format the partition that you've asked it to install XP onto. You'd normally then have to create and format the additional space using Disk Administration.
Another thing to check is what total size the mobo BIOS sees the disk as?
Hi, Check the jumper settings on the Hard Drive as well. One of the four jumpers set a limit on the size of hard drive if I recall.
Thanks,
Mark

Problem sorted  misread the instuctions for the jumper settings and had limited the drive to 32gb :dork:
Thanks all for your help :notworthy  :notworthy
