'Flight Of The Navigator' starred Sarah Jessica Parker who is married to Matthew Broderick who stars in D.A.R.Y.L!
;) ...actually I'm lying about the D.A.R.Y.L bit but if it was true it would be very, very, very funny indeed....!?!

Oh yeah! Lots of great flicks not on DVD, I tracked them down on LD and VHS for now:
Not counting the trilogy of trilogies (BttF, Indy, SW)
Gremlins 2
Hidden 2
Weekend at Bernie's 2 (coming out Dec 4th!)
Mr. Destiny (Linda Hamilton! James Belushi!)
Separate Lives (Oooh, Linda Hamilton, .... James Belushi!!)
Point Last Seen & On The Line, both with Linda Hamilton and not out on ANY format Anywhere, TV movies
Head Above Water (Harvey Keitel, Cameron Diaz)
Destiny Turns on the Radio
Hardware
Oscar (Stallone comedy)
Under Suspicion (see sig)
12:01 (better than Groundhog Day)
Howard THE DUCK! Yeah! Point at me, "look there's a guy who likes that"
Wild Palms (Sci fi TV miniseries with James Belushi)
Traces of Red (Another thriller with James Belushi)
Killing Time (1998 british flick with a hitwoman, a chick with two guns on the cover, don't confuse with about 10 other same titled films)
Shortcuts (coming 2002)
Schindler's List (coming 2002)
Blade Runner theatrical cut (coming 2002, maybe)
Regarding Henry (Harrison Ford, sad cute little drama)
Oh, and I Come in Peace, yesss!
I must have left a couple dozen other "bad" films most of which won't make it to DVD so I'll hang on to my LDs and VHS
RoboCop4

There are a few lesser-known titles that it would be nice to see on DVD..
• Silver Streak
• Flashpoint (Kris Kristofferson)
• Into the Night (Jeff Goldblum)
• George Formby titles
• umm .... other stuff

There was a thread here a little while ago that linked to a DVD news site with a large article listing releases from all the major studios for next year. I'm sure I read it there?
ooops, just found the article at DVDFile and it was actually saying that there was NO news of HTD.... Sorry!

All seven Asterix movies.
The first three are available in France, and all seven were available at some point in Australia, but in hack & scam, mono and devoid of extras. (The last three films have been in 1.85:1, the two before that in 1.66:1 and the first two in 1.33:1. In addition, the last two films were Spectral Recording Dolby.) Shabby treatment, especially considering how big these films were in France.
And don't tell me about that outrageously lame live-action rip-off (the so-called eighth film).
NIGHT MOVES of course, one of the greatest films of the seventies even though only 3 people I know have seen it.
THE WIND AND THE LION / BIG WEDNESDAY - John Milius really should be allowed to make another film for the cinema.
PAT GARRETT AND BILLY THE KID / BALLAD OF CABLE HOGUE - the greatest director of all time needs some proper special editions.
THE YAKUZA - Mitchum at his coolest, which is saying something, and the only martial arts film I can abide. One of the finest action movies ever made.
TWO WEEKS IN ANOTHER TOWN - OK, Vincente Minnelli isn't exactly fashionable at the moment, but since "Bad And The Beautiful" is coming out, what about this semi-sequel ?
SCARECROW - Hackman and Pacino, need I say more ?
I would love for the Super Mario Bros film to come out on dvd, nobody else likes this film but i love it!!

Oh is this the film which starred Ken Takakura (or something like that) ?
If it was saw this on television and thought it was great. It had a terrific scene with Ken fighting all these Yakuza henchmen with a katana sword. Looked very realistic and wasn't over the top. Very stylish indeed.

Forgot about Remo!, I especially liked the theme music and I hope the eventual release has a 5.1 mix to make full use of it. I recall the end-credits being accompanied by the (cheesy but rousing) score in full.
I immediately thought of the following 2:-
Black Sheep, Chris Farley/David Spade comedy which I found to be hilarious. I haven't seen it in ages though, so there's every chance it's not as fantastic as I remember. I'm hanging on for the DVD in any case.
The Reluctant Vampire (called Love Bites in the U.K). An unusual movie starring Adam Ant of all people. It's a dark comedy (of sorts), but basically a "stage" type farce where lots of misunderstandings lead to some offbeat hilarity. Ant's character is a vamp that's woken up after hundreds of years and as such he speaks in an amusingly old-fashioned way and can't comprehend modern advances like electricity. Again, not seen it for a long while, but I have some distinctly fond memories.
I'm sure if I really thought about it, I could come up with loads. It would only frustrate me if I did though and considering how lethargic some companies are, there are bound to be a few obscure titles that NEVER get a release.
I've been anxiously expecting Trading Places since I first bought a player. It's not in any way obscure or a big cash-cow movie either, so why are we waiting?!.
THX 1138
HARDWARE
DUST DEVIL
METAL BEAST
That's all I can think of right now.

I second Hardware. Classic stuff.

I'd also concur with Naked and add these:
Four Flies On Grey Velvet
The Secret Adventures of Tom Thumb
Nick Zed's War Is Menstrual Envy (though I'd rate the chances of this one actually getting a release as being somewhere short of bugger all  ).
Obviously not for the films but I would love to see a seiers of directors early shorts on a DVD with a decent commentary relating to the decisions they made, the shoots they chose etc.

More to add:
Happy Together - the Patrick Dempsey/Helen Slater comedy (mmmmm Helen Slater ;) )
Heads - Strange little comedy detective film with Ed Asner, Roddy McDowell and Jennifer Tilly.
Feds - Fun women in a men's world comedy.
These are my guilty pleasures.:D

KES - I own a old MGM V#S copy, which I bought from Blackstar in their heyday. I love this movie, and I'd buy a really good DVD in a heartbeat - original ratio, good transfer, Loach commentary, a documentary about what happened to the kid... that sort of thing.
Lots of Play for Today episodes, esp. "Cathy Come Home" / Alan Clarke. Social context stuff?
UNMAN, WITTERING AND ZIGO (1971 film) - very understated but extraordinarily good 70s play adaptation. Geoffrey Unsworth (A NIGHT TO REMEMBER, 2001, CABARET) DP, and does a great atmospheric job. Unfortunately, AFAIK it's in rights limbo (originally British Paramount), although it does show up occasionally on British TV - Sky Movies and FilmFour. You could also include the 1965 625-line TV version, if it still exists...
All the Lindsay Anderson Mick Travis films: IF..., O LUCKY MAN, BRITANNIA HOSPITAL.
Early, early Spielberg: DUEL, THE SUGARLAND EXPRESS. Lucas as well: THX-1138 (could include the short).
Oh, yeah, and Raymond Briggs animation: WHEN THE WIND BLOWS especially. May also be in rights limbo, seeing as it was Palace Pictures and they went bankrupt, but OTOH IMDB says FilmFour. Has been available in Germany on V#S, but dubbed. So my only copy's taped off Channel Four. More, please!
"Secret Adventures of Tom Thumb" is wonderful. There is an R1 release for this title, dontchaknow.
My vote is for:-
"The Life & Adventures Nicholas Nickleby" (the early 80s RSC version, all 8 hours - sounds like torture but is incredibly compulsive viewing and life-affirming. May be a rights issue in the UK as the US of A has the title on VHS).
"Lisztomania" - Got "Tommy" and "Phantom of the Paradise", must now have this gem by naughty Ken.
"Shock Treatment" - my VHS copy is getting seriously knackered. A grower of a movie.
The Last Meal - Cameron Diaz's first
The entire series' of the hit TV Cartoon BERTHA
Super-Ted - The Unseen episodes
ThunderCats Box Set
I wish...
Keoma (not the German release)
Baron von Munchausen (German original)

Forgot to mention that one - a definite want of mine too. Unfortunately it's been given the no-no by Fox. There was a chat on one of the Home Cinema forums and they said it was very unlikely to see a release. It seems they're sulking because the Rocky Horror DVD sales weren't as high as expected . Consider yourself lucky to have a VHS copy - I haven't seen it in over a decade! :( ;)
A Midnight Clear - superb anti-war movie.
The Pixies - thirded. Best indie band ever.
My Bloody Valentine - uncut please...
Dead of Night (1945) - classic British B&W horror anthology.
To Live and Die in LA - early Friedkin classic.
Don't Play with Fire - Tsui Hark's hard-hitting drama.
HOLIDAY ON THE BUSES
A MIDNIGHT CLEAR
PATHS OF GLORY
THE LAST BATTLE
A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH
PAT GARRETT AND BILLY THE KID .............

Carlton have already released a fairly bare bones version of this. It claims to have a commentary, but in fact it's a 5 or 10 minute interview with Jack Cardiff. Still a fantastic film though.
Although if you meant you were waiting for Criterion to release the special edition that this film deserves, then I'd have to agree with you.
Oh, and as is traditional with these threads, I'd like to put in a request for Static. Is that obscure enough?
Good to see that some people have the same taste, especially Bolch, but I'd like
The Sure Thing
Soylent green
The Omega Man
Biloxi Blues
UHF
Teen Wolf
Let It Be (Please Beatles release this!!)
Monterey Pop Festival
Ruthless People
and many others, especially anamorphic versions of
Silent Running
Fahrenheit 451
A Boy And His Dog
pmdf - Many thanks for the info on "Shock Treatment", though it is not good news.... The Rocky Horror edition is a peach in terms of the picture and certainly the audio and similar care and attention on "Shock Treatment" would have been wonderful. Extras on Rocky were actually very good but a bare bones on "Shock Treament" is all that I'd ask/pray/beg for....
"Secret Adventures of Tom Thumb" is a full-frame stereo transfer with a short by the Bolex Brothers also included. There's a link to a review on the ever-reliable dvd-basen.dk
There's some good titles cropping up here. One extra vote for an anamorphic "Jesus Christ Superstar" (1973 Norman Jewison version)....

If you mean the Franco Nero western, were you aware that Keoma is available on a pretty good R1 DVD from Anchor Bay?
I have the disc myself, and I'm pleased to say that it's uncut, presented in anamorphic 2.35:1 and has an English mono track on it (no Italian track, but it was probably shot silent and dubbed into different languages in post-production anyway). The disc also has an audio commentary from director Enzo Castellari on it, although the track can be a bit of a struggle due to Castellari's heavy accent.
bmx bandits definitely agree and also wild at heart plus legend and a commentary on buffalo 66 would be nice oh yeah say anything

I'll add my voice to the shout for Wild At Heart - didn't mention it my post above as I don't think of it as obscure, but it's definitely long overdue a quality release.
Twin Town too - reminds me of my student days... used to live at the top of the really steep hill (Constitution Hill) featured in the beginning of the movie... and Baron's night club was a favourite haunt on Thursday's indie nights... ah, nostalgia... ;) :D
Another vote for The Sure Thing, also Hobson's Choice (my favourite Lean movie) which surely should have come out on Criterion!

Yeah Stigdu!
Thanks for championing this one......
Dead of Night (1945) - classic British B&W horror anthology.
Brilliant, classic Ealing film: watch it every halloween, along with the standard stock of horror flicks - I'd love a DVD release

May still find a copy or two floating around the Classifieds if you have a dig.:)
By the way, for those who mentioned 'Deadman' - Jim Jarmusch & Johnny Depp, I've got the R1 DVD and the picture quality is class!:D
Re "The Wicker Man".... Read that Anchor Bay UK may be releasing an R2 version next year.... Wooden box? 2-disk set? Who knows....
Ummm, "Dead of Night" (1946) is on Anchor Bay's release list for 2002 I think. One of THE great horror flicks. Plus, I think AB's R1 "Quatermass & the Pit" (the 60s movie version) is meant to be okay (if you can play R1s).
"True Stories" is out as a full-frame stereo release, not sure what the original aspect ratio was. It's on my to-get list. Think you can pick it up for a tenner or so.
Forgot to mention on the wishlist "Santa Sangre". Wonderful and rewards repeated viewings. Great if you like magical-realism.

True Stories should be widescreen (not sure of the exact ratio) . With all those amazing Texas landscapes and those big, wide metal buildings full-frame must murder it. I'd very much like a decent release of it.
Santa Sangre would be nice. Fando & Lis is a nice disk of a crazy film with an excellent documentary.
Pepe le Moko (mentioned above) as available in a wonderfully restored version from France - but without English subtitles.
Ummm, "Dead of Night" (1946) is on Anchor Bay's release list for 2002 I think.

I'd really like to see the entire Eerie Indiana series. But not that Other Dimension thing, because it smelt.
And whilst I'm on the subject of completely hatstand kids' TV, what are the chances of getting a complete Gophers box set? Pretty slim I would have thought.
Re "Dead of Night"
Beebul - Gosh and darn it, you're right!!!! No sign of the blighter. I'm convinced I saw it a while back. Sorry for the bum steer, everyone!!!
But AB's "Crimes of Passion" is getting a commentary (naughty Ken I hope) and deleted scenes. Even saw this gem at the cinema!
Mrsteve: Guess I'll just have to keep waiting for that little doozy...

Incidently, Orbital sampled quite a few seconds worth of material from Dead of Night for their first album...
....bet they didn't declare the samples either!

La Vallee (aka Obscured by Clouds) - a weird French film about hippies 'finding themselves' in New Guinea.
Remarkable for its Pink Floyd soundtrack (the soundrack album directly preceded Dark Side of the Moon), and for being a classic example of a film that you need to be high or drunk to appreciate :D
-- J.
I spent my teenage years working in my Dad's video shop and there are loads of lost afternoon watching straight to video classics.
Freaked: Directed by the one in Bill & Ted who wasn't Keanu Reeves and quite brilliantly funny. Especially the rasta eyeballs and uncredited Keanu Reeves as Dogboy and Mr T as the Bearded Lady
Mr Frost: Jeff Goldblum and Alan Bates (I think!!) in super sinister supernatural thriller with Jeff as the Devil
Deathrow Gameshow: Gross out comedy years before th Farrelly's where Deathrow Convicts go on a quiz show to win a reprieve.

A few that spring to mind are 'Serpico', 'Once Upon a Time in America', 'Charly Varrick', 'Sonatine', and all (or even any) of Fruit Chan's films (a Hong Kong director, in my opinion the second most important director working in Hong Kong today, with Wong Ka Wai being the first).
Damian.
Just having a conversation about Michael Caine with a work chum and thought of a few more,
Without A Clue: Caine as Sherlock Holmes in what I remember being quite a funny little comedy based on the theory that Dr Watson (Ben Kingsley) was the real brains of the outfit whilst Holmes is a drunken fool
A Shock to the System: Pitch black comedy when Caine accidentally offs an old tramp and gets away with it, so decides to kill everyone who ****** him off.
Jack The Ripper: Really enjoyed this TV mini series from the early 90's (80's ???) and be good to see it again

Here's one that I've always wanted to see again and it would fill a gap in two (well three) directors filmographies.
Does anyone remember Crimewave ? This 1985 comedy was directed by Sam Raimi and written by the Coen brothers. It stars Bruce Campbell (although he's not on screen for that long) and is about two hitmen on a killing spree. It's very weird and very funny. If you like Evil Dead II chances are you'll love this "Three Stooges" homage which is filled with cartoon violence.
It would fill a gap in my collection nicely....

classic Thatcher's 80s feature "Ploughman's Lunch" with Tim Curry and Johnathan Pryce - I've only ever seen a clip but I'd buy a dvd of it on the strength of that.
Talking of Tim Curry, what about "Blue Money" the made for tv drama showcasing his musical impersonations?
Plus:
Bertolucci's 1900 (novocento)
the Turkish film "Yol"
'Mysterious Cities of Gold' - TV Series
Than I can get rid of my 4 Disc CD set! :smokin:
What about 'Mac & Me'!

Remarkable for its Pink Floyd soundtrack (the soundrack album directly preceded Dark Side of the Moon), and for being a classic example of a film that you need to be high or drunk to appreciate :D

I'll put in another vote for that one - love that soundtrack
also votes for Bad Boy Bubby and Litzomania (as mentioned previously)
One film i would love to see on DVD, but fear will never happen is Made. Not the 2001 release but the 1975 film starring Carol White and the singer/songwriter Roy Harper, many of whose songs were used in the soundtrack

Can't even track it down on VHS these days (unless anyone knows any different:) )

It's Alive (trilogy)

The Haunting (Robert Wise original)
Forgot to add that one. Must be Widescreen.

Isn't The Haunting due out around September time from Warner on R2?
Sure it was on their release list for this year. I know this doesn't guarantee anything, but we can hope.

I was going to add this to my list, but because of the announcements by MGM, I assumed it was already out and I missed it - I even said to the wife a few minutes ago that she could order it for my Easter!
