Hi,

I'm looking to get a new system, a Mini Barebones System, I have been quoted just over £740.

This was for :

Shuttle Case
AMD64 3000
512MB Ram
120Gb Samsung HD
SONY DVD-ROM 16x
Radeon GFX Card

Can't remeber the exact spec, but roughlt as above.

This was from Kustom PC's

Anyone know ant better deals on systems like this?

Cheers

You need to post their exact spec. The one you posted leaves the most expensive variables anonymous and so can't be realistically compared with anything else out there. The hidden variable in that quote is quality of service. I can personally vouch for Kustom in that respect.

Here is the exact spec:

Shuttle SN85 Barebones
£206.00

AMD Athlon64 3000+ CPU Retail
£137.01

Crucial PC3200 DIMM 512mb
£63.50

Connect 3D Radeon 9200SE 128mb
£38.00

Samsung SpinPoint P80 120gb IDE
£62.00

Sony 16x Black DVD-ROM 1613
£21.74

Windows XP Home OEM
£64.00

System Build and Test
£100.00

£10.00

Total: £702.25

Although I have been looking around on the net and found some of the items cheaper than stated as above.

Depends - how confident are you of building and installing the systme yourself? Shuttles are very straight forward (most of the cables are already in place). As you can see you'd save yourself £100 straight away by building it yourself. 2ndly the SN85 uses socket 754 which has been written off as a 64-bit socket so you'd only be able to upgrade to a 3700+, whereas the newer SN95G5 uses the newer socket 939 which is looking like the long term solution. A 3000+ cpu for this socket is cheaper aswell. Crucial memory is always cheaper if bought direct from Crucial.
Even if you're not confifrnt about putting it together, I'd get a friend to help you and put the £100 towards a better graphics card such as a Geforce6600gt/6800.
