Hey peeps
Having just discovered that I've had my entire system set-up wrong for the past year (d'oh!) I wondered if anyone out there can tell me how it should be done properly!

I have the following to connect together:

32" w/s phillips tv (with 2 scart sockets)
Sky Digibox
DVD player (Sony 725)
VCR (with 2 scart sockets)

what is important is that my tv adjust to the broadcast picture ratio automatically - something (I have only just discovered) that works when the digibox signal goes directly to the tv and not via the VCR (a whole bloody year of having to manually adjust the tv ratio - even with the tv set to 'automatic' - grrrr!)

Anyway - any advice for the best way to connect everything together to get the best possible performance much appreciated!

Richie

Does you Digibox have a passthru? If so;

DVD > Digibox > RGB SCART

VCR > SCART

Otherwise it's prolly best to:

Digibox > DVD > RGB SCART

VCR > SCART

I have a similar setup and the way I have it is.

the VCR AV1 goes into the the SKY BOX AV2 >

The SKY BOX AV1 goes into the DVD player AV2 >

The DVD player AV1 goes into the TV.

When you play a video the SKY box CLICKS and the plays on the telly no matter what you are watching. You can leave SKY on, and when you watch a DVD It takes control and you can watch that. Also when you record on your VCR and set it to AV1, it will tape SKY for you.:)

This leaves AV2 SPARE:D

Me too:

DVD -> TV AV1 (RGB)
VCR -> DIGIBOX -> TV AV2

(My video doesn't pass thru RGB)

Just a few things though, I never record dvd's and theres not much difference in the RGB/VIDEO output of the digibox, so I'm quite happy to have it on VIDEO output

There is a big difference If I switch to sky and dont have RGB set it does not look widescreen and picture is poor. When I set it the picture improves and the whole picure changes and looks widescreen then. Not stretched.

Must be my TV or me eyes :cool: or I've just got use to it, I put it on RGB temporarily last week, and that looked weird to me.

Must buy new TV... Must win Lottery :rolleyes:

Thanks everyone for all your help.
I had a good tinker about with all your ideas.
I discovered (shock!) that I have 3 scart sockets in my TV so I've now set it all up as follows:

Sky digibox > TV via scart
Sky digibox > VCR via scart

DVD > TV via scart (RGB)

VCR > TV via scart
(also the regular terrestrial tv ariel is connected to the VCR - as backup and this also takes care of the VCR's automatic clock setting!)

This sorts the "tv can't understand the correct aspect ratio" problem as it's now a direct connection from Skybox to TV and also it seems that the digital tv pic and audio quality is improved as well!

hurrah!
