Apparently this was the movie Jet Li turned down The Matrix 2 and 3 for ,all i can say is....DOH!!! After the lame antics of Romeo must Die and the dubious qualities of Kiss of the Dragon ,i still had some hope for this movie, however for a third time Jet Li dissapoints, despite an excellent turn in Lethal Weopom 4 i wonder how long studios will continue to throw money at straight to video "Fightin frenzy" movies.
Briefly ,its the future and mankind has discovered that there are approximately 123 alternative universes (although not one where Jet can act i fear!) which are created everytime a star collapses.Jet Li playing evil Jet ,has managed to kill all 122 other alternative uni' Jets in a quest to become the only (and hence all powerful) Jet in the multiverse , all that stans between him and god like status is YOU'VE GUESSED IT!!! Good Jet LI! They have a few fights along the way blah blah blah and manage to steal from everything Terminator,Demolition man, Highlander,Timecop and Face off.The speacial effects are so obviously sub~Matrix standard, the acting is dire (several scenes include Li talkin to himself...Jesus!! ) and script and plot...Ha ha! that interest is quickly lost. You have been warned, dont be fooled by glossy trailers, this will be in the £9.99 DVD section before you can say,"Bad career choice!!":o  :brickwall
well since i really liked Romeo Must Die (*shock* *horror* :) ) and absolutely loved Kiss Of The Dragon i reckon i'll probably enjoy The One as well :D
Poor old Jet, The One's got slated by just about every critic there is according to Rotten Tomatoes (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/movie-1110343/). :(
Which is a shame, because he's a brilliantly charismatic actor/martial artist. I actually think Romeo Must Die gets far more stick than it deserves and haven't yet seen Kiss of the Dragon; but I really wish he had taken up the Matrix 2 role - it should've given his Hollywood career the break it needed.
Ah well, if Jet bombs in Hollywood maybe he'll go back to Hong Kong and start doing what he does best again. :D
to be fair - the reasons he turned down CTHD and Matrix 2 was for his wife having a baby.
he promised he would not work while she was in labour and the baby was born etc... matrix sequels began filming before KoD and The One - therefore he couldn't do them
also no Matrix 2 = no Matrix 3

I agree.
Both Romeo Must Die & Kiss of the Dragon are decent films, and don't deserve the stick they get.
Critism is probably party due to Canadians/Americans not accepting the cultural gap, after all, martial art films have always been frowed upon in the US (with the exception of CTHD).

I posted my remark about the film here (http://www.britishbornchinesedb.org.uk/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3341) . The music didn't suit the fights imo and it was too short (89 mins).
I saw a trailor for this the other day and i think it looks great.
I love Romeo Must Die and Kiss of the Dragon and Jet Li is one of my favorite actors now

Well I've actually seen it and it was amazing.
Gotta agree the heavy rock music was too much and too loud, and you know what they did? The BIGGEST mistake, they Slow-mo'ed the action, while it's a great idea and very cool to show how actually fast Jet Li is when all they slow down are the people he beats up, like he kicks one up in the air, he flies slowly while jet is moving at his "usual" speed, beating up a couple more and then just in time kicking the still falling guy up and down again, breaking him. That is fine, but what they also slowed down were his fight with himself near the end, kung-fu is always better sped up not slowed down!!
But special effects are great, you get "Bullet time" X4297, no bull!
Some moments reminded me of the Fifth Element for some reason, probably the beefed up cops walking in a row, it is too short but at least it never drags and I always like Jason Statham.
Anyway, it's fun and entertaining, matrix & sliders & highlander mixed together, very enjoyable.

Nope, I won't, but I will admit that Crouching Tiger sucks!
Ehh... am I the first to say that?
*hides*
I loved Romeo must Die, personally. I especially liked the references to 70s blaxpoitation and kungfu.
The One however was a tired and cliched matrix wannabe. The first half was extreemly dull and unimaginative . The second half picked up as the kungfu got better but I practise kungfu myself so I can see how slo-mos of extreemly technical kungfu sequences might not interest everybody.

*hides* GAAAAAASP..........You are openly comparing the TIGER to such borderline dross as K.O.D which is frankly blasphermy.......CTHD ROCKS and you are just jealous cos LI has 0% personality and 0% chance of being in a half decent movie!!!!!

It's funny you say that as i think KOD is a better film than Crouching Tiger (which i also like by the way :) )
My main reason for this is that although Crouching Tiger had a better storyline and fight scenes i prefered the hard edged attitude in KOD, it was more brutal and nasty and Li looks constantly ****** off all the time which i thought was pretty cool
If you want to see a film that kicks CTHD's arse watch Fist Of Legend which just happens to star Jet Li :)

Well the thread is about "The One".
There's no point in comparing it to CTHD becuase their totally different, and more to the point, there's no reason why you can't enjoy any of the above films on their own merit instead of sticking them up against each other.
But the person who said Jet Li has 0% personality and 0% chance of being in a half decent movie is a moron !. ;)
Fist of Legend, OUATIC1&2, & Fong Sai Yuk are far more than just decent movies.

Yeah, I'm tired of people always comparing movies without even trying to judge them on their own.
And you didn't have to put that smilie there, but we all understand it's the Forum's Official Insurance

Firstly i resent being called a moron it is my personal OPINION That Li is a bad actor and an average action/fighting star.Since he stars in KOD and RMD I figured it would be highly appropriate to compare these two movies to the one ,thats what are viewer does otherwise you have no real benchmark for a particular actor.I never mentioned Crouching but since it has several fight scenes that are far more impressive and origional than anything ive seen Jet Li do,i've no doubt thats Hollywoods inteference but it doesnt detract from the fact that the box office ,audiences and critics have given a big thums down to the last two Jet movies ,and i fear this will go the same way.Kiss of the Dragon and Romeo must die were plotless badly acted crap,I like stupid movies but they were dull, dull, dull and the next person who calls me a moron gets a chop to the windpipe!:argue:

Oh dear.:(
Thats what the ;) was for.

You've seen 3 Jet Li movie's, all of which are plagued by Hollywood interference, yet you come to the conclusion that he will never be in a decent movie, even though he's been in 10's of movie's (all of which you've chosen to ignore through ignorance or were unaware of).
Either way, Jet has already proved himself to be one of the best in his field by being involved with some of the best movie's to come out of China in recent times.
Have you ever thought that maybe the Director should take some responcibilty for a poor film ?. The flaws with Romeo Must Die for example arent really with Jet, if anything, its more to do with Jet being held back.
I never mentioned Crouching but since it has several fight scenes that are far more impressive and origional than anything ive seen Jet Li do
Then you havent seen enough Jet Li movie's & shouldnt be comenting in the first place.
CTHD was an Eastern film made partly with Hollywood money so of course the fight scenes are going to be better than a Hollywood only film like Romeo Must Die.
But If you'd seen Jet Li in "Once Upon a Time In China", then you'd know that Jet has already starred in a similar film to CTHD which many believe is better than CTHD.
but it doesnt detract from the fact that the box office ,audiences and critics have given a big thums down to the last two Jet movies ,and i fear this will go the same way.
Actually, Rome Must Die was regarded mainly as above average but still flawed, and Kiss of the Dragon generally got the thumbs up. But Jet Li is an Eastern Star and has already proved himself, its not his fault if Hollywood dont know what to do with him.
Remember what happend with Jackie Chan when he first tried to brake into America.
Kiss of the Dragon and Romeo must die were plotless badly acted crap,I like stupid movies but they were dull, dull, dull
Maybe thats because nearly all Hollywood action movies are pointless badly acted crap. Thats part of the fun.

I've seen it too - the action was pretty good, but there was nothing to it. You get a brief explaination of what it is about, but then that is it - it is just action, action and more action.
The special effects are good ie
when Jet Li punches people and it goes into slow-mo of their bodies flying whilst he speeds up to kick them in mid air etc
Some of the music is TOTALLY out of place for the scene - like Rob Zombie style music in one scene which doesn't really fit in with the action.
Overall, I would give it about 4/10

I gotta agree - Jet Li, in my opinion is not particularly good of an action star and is over rated as a martial artist. Its a well known fact that in a lot of his movies, both Hong Kong and US he is sped up by the camera.
Have I seen a lot of his movies?
Hitman, Twin Warriors, Black Mask, Born to Defence, Romeo Must Die, Kiss Of The Dragon, The One to name a few.
To me, he is nothing more than a Steven Seagal - ie has all these credentials but looks totally @@@@e on screen.
One thing I will give him to his credit, is he is graceful and seems nice in interviews.
