MW is for some reason returning errors on Blueyonder a/cs when Outlook has no problem - it's been like this for months so it's well past time to find an alternative - any suggestions?

Not sure how mailwasher works, but I use K9. This simply tags messages with a prefix in the subject line (e.g. [SPAM]) before passing on to outlook. This leaves you to create a rule to move to a spam box, delete, etc...

Not sure if you wanted something a bit more automated, but it seems to work fairly well after a couple of weeks of "learning" what is spam and what isn't (you tell it the "good" and "spam" emails).

Mailwasher "downloads" the header and checks against known blacklisted spammer daatabases - I don't really want to d/l then delete from Outlook

I see Avast mentioned increasingly - does it do what I've outlined above?

Avast is a free virus scanner. K9 is a good option or you could always change to Thunderbird which has its own built in spam detector.

Tenex it did exactly that it would not let me connect to the pop server until I disabled the e mail scanner & then only for the first 5 mins & would then say you are not connected to the internet.
Avast did at the time change the pop setting in o/e & mail washer to a proxy server 127.0.0.1 if I remember correctly so the incoming mail would be scaned.

I read in a thread on this forum only in the last few days that the latest auto program update fixes this but you hae to manually configure the pop setting back to your original isp settings the guy in the other thread was having probs connecting with oe after the Av had updated.

I have a mate who is having the same problem with the new free AVG 7 which also as a email scanner.

Perhaps you should have a look at what ever AV you use to see if this is causing a problem.
The strange thing is Avast worked ok for others while I was having these problems !

Phew ! that a lot of words

Mailwasher and Avast is working fine for me too. I haven't changed anything since the updates.

I just use mailwasher to delete spam/unwanted emails before it downloads to outlook. I have managed to delete plenty of emails with viruses that way and saving my computer from them.
