Thanks for that, I am tempted by The Battle of Algiers Criterion (CD-wow don't seem to have it anymore), but the total with shipping is coming in over the customs limit.

Do customs take into account the total price including shipping? Or just the item price? Thanks.

Should be item price only.

Depends how the package is marked. If no shipping mentioned, should be OK, but if total with shipping goes over the limit, you're charged the tax plus the extorniate Royal Mail 'handling' fee! :(

DDD are currently routing via Europe so you’d have to be very unlucky to get stuffed. However large orders will go via DHL courier and those are guaranteed a charge plus their massive handling fee.

I speak from bitter experience.

Fellow Discounters,

They tried to slap a £76-00  charge on part of last December's $750-00 order.

After refusing to pay it, I managed to persuade them to waive it. :)

With the summer sale, everything seemed to be sent separately, so that was nice. :)

However, I wouldn't bet on escaping fees - but if you avoid them, this is the sale of the year.

Yours Pointedly,
Lik.

Should be item price only.

No - Duty and VAT are on top of cost of item and all delivery charges.

No - Duty and VAT are on top of cost of item and all delivery charges.

Only if the price before delivery is over the customs threshold.

If the DVD is under £18.00 then the delivery is ignored and no charge should be made.

If DVD costs £18.01 then that + the delivery charge will be taken to work out the customs charge.

No - Duty and VAT are on top of cost of item and all delivery charges.

Actually, you are partly correct.

Duty and VAT are only applied to shipping cost when the item itself is over the £18 threshold.

So, for instance, an item costs £17.50 and shipping is £5.00 NO duty and VAT is applied, even thought he total is over £18.

However, if the item itself costs £18.50 and shipping is £5.00, you will be charged duty and VAT on the total £23.50

Some are total pants - like Tropical Rainforest :oh-hum:

If you like racing cars and BIG surround sound try Super Speedway http://www.superspeedway.com/eng/home.html

It's only a short documentary style again in 1:33 but quite enjoyable

At what sort of order value do they upgrade you to DHL Courier shipping? I'm thinking of spending around $300 (inc. discounts & shipping).

Even if it does end up being the same price as DVD Soon (http://www.dvdsoon.com/index.xml?partner_id=10040) it's worth it for items which are near the customs limit of £18 since the customs limit is based on the value excluding shipping, e.g.:

An item at DVD Soon (http://www.dvdsoon.com/index.xml?partner_id=10040) is £20 delivered but at deepdiscountdvd it's £20 plus £4 postage delivered. Using the discount code it would be £16 plus £4 postage, so even though you're paying the same you won't get hit by customs.

FINAL DAY

Anyone know if the discount will be applied to out of stock titles? If they ship separately will they incur further shipping charges?

Roughly how long do DDD take to ship in-stock stuff?

Keith White
20-11-2004, 12:42
It can be used for out of stock items. They usually arrive in 7 to 10 working days. Anything not in stock will be shipped as it arrives, with no extra charge. :)
