For those who asked for it, I have now added Ringos to DVDPriceCheck (http://www.*********************).

If you haven't visited the site for a few weeks then you will find other retailers that have been added... still plenty more to go though

Ringos added to DVD price check

Blimey. So how does it circumvent the bad spelling?

great news although really Ringos should be added to the region 1 section as they sell mostly region 1 disks

Agreed, I'll sort this out later today.

I wonder if DVDimport (www.dvdimport.com) should be added to the list.

They are on my list of retailers to add... see DVD Suppliers List (http://dvdpricecheck.ipx.co.uk/modules.php?op=modload&name=DVDSuppliers&file=index)

:) Mate it might sound like a daft question but do you enter the individual details (ie search every title) when you add a store to your site? And how often to you recheck links and prices?

Sounds very time consuming.

I'm guessing he's written a script that goes and checks the prices each time a search is performed, i.e. he doesn't actually maintain a database of all the prices.

Taken from the dvdpricecheck site:

---
This site searches DVD suppliers using real-time web-search technology, but the information gathered is only as good as the source information...
---

which means I will be using the site alot :) Good job DeepThought

I don't do it all myself, that would be daft. I actually employ 17 small, purple, pixies who trawl the web-sites regularly and write down the price of all the DVDs. They then pass the output to the green fairies (there are only 7 of these, but they type fast) who enter all the information into the database.

That is not strictly true :-)

Actually, as already noted, I have a written a number of scripts. Depending upon the supplier I either pull the prices in nightly (or weekly depending on the frequency of updates) or search in real-time using my web 'spidering' code.

To reduce the bandwidth requirements when spidering in real-time , I do cache returned results in the database for a few days. This also speeds up the searches for popular titles.

Mark.

You lazy ******* :D

There's me thinking you were sat at the PC for 27hrs a day!

Keep up the good work anyway mate cos I'd miss the site were it not there (that's not to be construed as a threat :D)

Great site...

I posted a new feature suggestion but never got a reply. As you have registered users with profiles, why not allow them to add their "wanted" dvd's to a wishlist, so friends and relatives could look up the site and buy them at the cheapest price. Good for the site, good for the e-tailers and good for the dvd fans.

It's got to be better than asking Grannie for some Special Edition DVD for Xmas available online for 12 (import), and her spending 30 quid on a bog standard edition from the local Our Price!!

Any thoughts?

K

Sorry KeithHx. I do try to respond to suggestions, this must have slipped through.

I'll add this to list, but I suspect most Grannies do not search the web for cheap DVDs

Yes, fair point - bad example... web savvy girlfriends do though! ;)
