After loving Mario tennis in all its gameboy incarnations and the N64 game I Was looking forward to this. Then I forgot about it. Now I see it due for release in the US next week! I love the Mario sports games...there is just something basically fun about them. Really looking forward to this.....the screenshots look great

Seriously, are you deliberately trolling?

Because, yeah, a console that turns a profit is clearly failing!

I have all 3 machines, and my cube is just something to gather dust now. If nintendo had released golf, tenis and kart 2 years ago it would still be a format that gets developed for.

Incidently Iconoclast , how does a company decide if a console is failing?

No offence, but I couldn't care less if you have "all 3 machines". This thread was setup to talk about Mario Tennis not the failings of the Gamecube. If you want to talk about that, go resurrect one of those old "Is the Gamecube Dying????111" threads. And back on topic. I've pre-ordered tennis from VG+. Most terrible thing though is that I have like 5 uni assignments due in within the next month, but November is quickly turning out to be the best gaming month EVER in the world EVER.

We'll not know until it goes on release Spinning Plates. I've pre-ordered now knowing so fingers crossed.

I suppose you can cancel them, but why bother ordering until you have seen the reviews

Portables are all well and good but i'm hardly an eight year old kid on holiday with my parents, consoles own handhelds lets be honest

I can't wait, Mario Tennis was one of my faves on the N64 and will preorder it. (Now if they made a DS version I would be there so quick!!)

just checked my pre-order for the UK version at Play and the release date has been put back to 31/12 (as has Mario Party 6) - what sort of marketing plan is this then, released after Christmas, great idea :cuckoo:

I'm cancelled my pre-order in disgust. Was looking forward to it soon.

Hopefully a mario tennis will come out for the DS

I'd agree with that, but I'm willing to bet cold hard cash that Mario 64x4 will get more play out of me than Mario Tennis.

Whether its dying or not is besides the point. The point is that developers are releasing games for it...good games.

In fairness though (and this from a Nintendo fan) most developers have dropped it. The only really good games are Nintendo's own. Not as many people will be playing the likes of MP2, MT, Pikmin 2, Donkey Konga, Paper Mario etc as they ditched the console long ago. Same thing happened in the last years of the SNES (Donkey Kong 2,3) and the N64 (Banjo Tooie, Conker's BFD, Majoras Mask). In fact, wasn't Mario Tennis one of the last original games to come to the N64

The Cube is definately dying as Bolch says, but the games coming out soon are *so* good I really don't care - the Cube still gets much more use than my XBox purely on that elusive "fun" factor.

There are so many good games out now / coming soon - however I just know that I'll be able to pick up MP2, Pikmin 2 etc for about £15 within a month or so, so I'll hold off - I guess this is contributing to the cycle of "failure" though :(

That's true, but I've never bought any Nintendo console for the 3rd party games.

It's reasons like that why Nintendo and Sega are very similar, they both excel in making games over selling + marketing their consoles. Console sales aside, you rarely see a game as polished as a Ninty one.

Sega and Nintendo should join forces and blow these newbies out of the water :p

bump to this thread:

Mario Tennis IS here now, officially in PAL territories..

So has anyone bought it and what do they think? Any NTSC users got it ages ago? Share your thoughts please! I was interested in buying this. It seems Gamespot seem to like it, but i haven't seen a review that puts it in the 90s rating?

I really would like to get this, i think it looks great, but im saving up for a laptop and can't really afford to spare the cash.

I don't think i'd have much time to go on it anyway with all the overtime im doing at work.

Picked it up yesterday and it's great. Sure, there's nothing particularly new about it, but it oozes Nintendo class. It looks and sounds beautiful, plays simply with a deal of depth, lots of play modes and mini-games. It's precisely what you would expect, which is no bad thing in this case.

I picked it up yesterday to play with the wife. Sadly, she's rubbish at it :(

Its a very well put together game though, the gimmick courts are a nice twist, and the mini games are entertaining. I would imagine with 4 people it would be fantastic.

I've been playing Mario Tennis today and it plays quite simiarly to Super Tennis on the SNES (and that is a hell of a compliment!) - very nice game, power-ups and silly but amuzing and I enjoyed the 1 player tornament so 2 player should be great.

I actually prefer this to Mario Golf I think :)

I've got it too and i think it's an ok game. I had to turn off the annoying music, but after that i could concentrate on playing. I also don't think the presentation of the menus is great. I wished it was more like the Smash Brothers menu, rather than looking like the Super Mario Sunshine (more basic) menus.

It is a fun game, but sometimes the computer uses it's power shots too early instead of more strategically (they should be saved for a counter-shot attack or when in the trouble of no hope of reaching the ball). Also because change camera is on the Z button, i'm sometimes swtiching camera by accident when i'm going for a power shot with the R shoulder button, which is annoying.

I think the gimmick courts really add to the play. It's quite inventive. The play can get pretty crazy. I think my favourite character so far is Koopa The Turtle because of his speed. i completed the mushroom cup tournament and The spoof animated outakes (a la Shrek or Toy Story) on the credits are a nice touch

Has anyone managed an ace yet? What's the nack to it?

It's a shame that so many stores round here have either dropped, or are uninterested in the Cube anymore.
Either they have gone from the shelves (just selling off the last few games on the cheap to get rid of them), They have already gone months ago, or there is a tiny display over in the corner of the store.
Even if you knew nothing about consoles. You'd almost have to make an effort to buy a cube round here.
Which is a shame as of all the consoles I like the Cube games the most and the way they were put together.
I also have an Xbox, and although I like it from a POWER point of view, it just does not have the games I like.

I've no idea how Nintendo can do anything with their next console in the UK, as it seems to public (general public) and the shops have already decided it's a 2 horse race these days.......

As I said before and I'll say again.
I just wish Nintendo would write their excellent software for the OTHER consoles.
Making themselves tons of cash, and letting everyone enjoy their superb talents.

It looks really bad when you walk into a general entertainment store and see the cube section. I was in Smiths today and all they had for the Cube was the top 5 games in the chart all priced at £40. It only takes up about half of one small shelf. Then next to it there's a top 40 for both Xbox and PS2 which takes up over 2 full wall shelfs from floor to ceiling for each console. Blockbuster wasn't much better either but Nintendo have only got themselves to blame.

back on topic:

does anyone know what getting a "star" player (once you've completed the game with that character) does? I'm struggling to notice the difference in play with normal Yoshi and his "star" version i seem to have unlocked?
