Criterion is an American DVD label renowned for releases of unusually high quality, both in terms of transfer and extras (not always as many as you get on some special editions, but the average IQ level is often much higher). They also release bare-bones discs of classic arthouse titles that you usually can't get on DVD anywhere else. For more details, see their website.

Superbit is a new initiative by Columbia whereby all the fripperies such as extras have been sacrificed in favour of a transfer that's allegedly as good as it gets - though the first batch has been controversial, with the general consensus being that they're only really worth getting if you have a giant screen or projection-based system.

Would i be right in saying that they come at a higher price then the usual DVD?

Their barebones discs are usually $29.99 (or around £15.49 at *********), the more feature-packed ones $39.99 (or around £22.50 at *********), with a few of the more spectacular packages - Spartacus and Brazil, for instance - being $49.99, though these two are easily worth the extra outlay.

Is Brazil 2 or 3 discs? On Play24/7 they have it listed as 3:

1. Directors cut
2. Extras
3. "Love Conquers All"

but it seems to be listed as 2 everywhere else:

1. Directors Cut
2. Extras

was it re-released cutting out the third disc, or has Play got their facts wrong?

Any help appriciated. Matt

Its definitely a 3-disker

Disk 1 - Terry Gillaims version of the mvoie (or as close as we can get to it)
Disk 2 - A huge pile of extras
Disk 3 - The studio cut of the movie (which really has to be seen to be believed)
