View Full Version : Whats a 'Euro Scart'
As title
Heard it mentioned on a few forums.
I thought all scarts were pretty much standard!
They are the same, but as SCART is a European standard (I don't think any American equipment would have a scart socket) so some people say both. It's a bit like saying PIN Number, which is silly as the N in PIN stands for number.
I believe Peritel is another name for scart so don't let that one confuse you either.

Peritel is the original name for SCART.

Euro SCART = SCART (Syndicat Français des Constructeurs d'Appareils Radio et Télévision).
Info here (http://www.hippy.freeserve.co.uk/scart.htm)
Since we're talking useless scart factoids.
Did you know that it was first introduced in France and made compulsory on all TVs in an attempt to discourage the importing of TVs.
It's true I tell you.

Another great French invention next to...erm...SECAM? :D
SECAM: Something Essentially Contrary to the American Method.
That's not true, it's really Sequential Coleur Avec Memoir.
To be honest, the first version is simply a more honest description, they invented secam so that they didn't have to use NTSC and sequential colour with memory is an description of why they thought it was better then NTSC. Unfortunately it isn't any better. They failed to solve the problems that plague broadcast NTSC.
Makes you proud to be British. PAL rocks.
Land of hope and glory

Nah. PAL, NTSC and SECAM are all as bad as each other when compared to HDTV ;)
