Wolves sacked Dave Jones this morning.

See here (BBC) (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/w/wolverhampton_wanderers/3971051.stm)

After the shambolic display I witnessed on Saturday I'm not surprised, but has been hampered by both injuries and the board.

Moving on...Gordon Strachan anyone?

As long as gergory and megson don't get interviewed..

best of luck dave, you gave us a season in the sun, which although it wasn't pretty its somethign i'll never forget..........

Not before time too. The Gillingham result was unacceptable, and was the 3rd team in the bottom 3 we've lost to this season.

My personal choice would be Jean Tigana as he's got experience of taking a team up and keeping them there, by playing an attacking/passing style of football too. Ok so he spent loads on Marlet, but we have a pretty frugal CEO in Jez Moxey. Any Fulham fans got any opinions about him?

Another name that sounds good would be Stuart Baxter who is apparently a Wolves fan. Has his FIFA Pro-License too and is known for developing young players from his time as England U19 coach. Would he want to leave the SA job though to come to a tough job in the depths of The Championship?

As long as Megson (boring football) and Adams (Good set-pieces and......?) aren't considered as they are both good at Div1 but are proven failures at Prem level, and are no better than what we had with Jones IMO.

I seem to recall him doing ok at Stockport which got him the Southampton job. He was doing ok in that until Southampton got rid of him for a non football reason which he was cleared of.

Wolves didn't play that bad on Saturday imho

He got Wolves up to the Prem ok, many had tried beforehand!

Still, things change and I can understand that they're current position is not acceptable.

They had lots of possession but I can only remember the Gills keeper making two saves.

OK, the Gills defended soundly and were well organised but there was a distinct lack of quality from Wolves and they were second to every 50:50 ball and showed very little desire. Ultimately it was the players who got Jones sacked but he did buy most of them so I'm afraid the buck stops there.

For the benefit of any Wolves fans on here who don't visit the Molineux Mix forums, this was posted on there a short time ago:

Those of you who know me and the fact my brother is a celebrity musician who plays for Will Young, got free tickets for DJ's kids to see him, was DJ's guest at the Play-off finals (i posted the photos on this site) should know i'm not not talking bull or hearsay. My brother has just called me after speaking to DJ, he is good friends with DJ, and so he's obviously gutted that DJ's gone. Paul Ince has a lot to answer for, caused a lot of trouble in the dressing room, he really was after DJ's job, got involved in fisticuffs with Keith Andrews in dressing room after Forest game, DJ himself is relieved its all over.. he knew net was closing in, he understands Sir Bobby has been touting the job and said don't be surprised to see a Robson/Ince ticket. He also told him he had a call regarding the West Brom job but out of loyalty to Wolves would not take it...he reckons Hoddle will get it. Much more i could say but that is as much as i will, sure others like Chickee or Desert Wolf who have close connections in the club will verify
There are a few people with genuine connections on there so I wouldn't be suprised if it turned out to be true. Very interesting if it is.

The bit I hope is true is that Hoddle's going to the Albion

Feel sorry for Jones. He has done well wherever he has gone. Hardly like Wolves have had any sort of track record to follow since the 80's. Sounds like(from elsewhere) it is more due to the dressing room. Ince caused trouble at manyoo and lpoo so it is Jones' fault for trusting him. Alex Rae IMO is the man who really cost Jones. Was the best midfielder in the country in the 4 or 5 games I saw him last season outside the usual suspects.

Didnt Wolves have their own thread when they were in the Premiership???????????We did but there's not enough Wolves fans on here to keep one going in The Premiership never mind The Championship.

Oh and I thought Walter Smith is favourite for the Scotland job, not necessarily Strachan?

Don't be surprised to see Big Ron at the baggies. I think Sir Bob would even chose the baggies over Wolves, as he has strong connections with them. However I really do think we've seen the last of Bobby in a managerial role.

Can't Bully do a job for you guys? I know how much he is loved down there. IMHO Ince would be a disaster. He's a one man publicity machine who loves no one as much as himself. He wasn't a bad player but, I think he'd make a crap manager. Just because he thinks he is always right and he is "The Guvnor". A nick name he gave himself, if your weren't aware.

John Gregory topped a poll in the local Wolverhampton evening paper with Harry second, although this was before Harry left Pompey.

The Bear
27-11-2004, 23:10
There's not many Wolves fans want to see Gregory appointed unless it is a last resort. No-one takes that Express & Star story seriously as he only got votes due to him touting Steve Bull as his No.2.

I think West Brom and Villa fans had a lot to do with the E&S poll. ;)

I can't see it being Bobby Robson either (thankfully). But if it isn't Harry Redknapp and Jim Smith (which I can't see it being), there are going to be a lot of disappointed fans.

I was initially disappointed, as it's not the most daring or inspirational choice, but it could've been worse (both Robsons, Adams, Gregory, etc).

Its interesting that he rejected West Brom because he only wanted a contract until the end of the season, but is apparently coming to us for two and a half years.

I think Hoddle is a pretty good coach in the right set up. He is a bit bonkers, but if the players respect him (and not view him as a barking oddball), then he could do well.

Just heard that they've given him a contract til the end of the season. I guess someone had to fill the post while Harry Redknapp is taking a break. ;)

Weird, Hoddle goes from Spurs to Wolves, who are sort of my second club. Robson would have been a better choice, though. What happened to Southampton though?

As a West Brom fan, the only disappointment about this news is that Glen "Diamond Lights" Hoddle didn't sign a six year deal. This is bound to end in tears. If Glen fails then he'll get the boot, if he succeeds then he'll dump Wolves like he did Swindon, Chelsea and Southampton. With Glen's usual lapdog John Gorman just appointed Wycombe manager, expect Eileen Drewery to be installed as Wolves' number two in the coming days. Whilst other footballers are out on the training grounds on cold winter's mornings, the Wolves players will be indoors on the prayer mats, rubbing mystic, magic crystals and meditating. Good luck, boys!

He'll do. At least he's a decent coach. By God he's got his work cut out though. He saw undeniably the worst performance of the season on Tuesday night against Millwall, so at least he has no illusions as to what faces him.

Took his first training session today. If he can get them playing together properly as a team and get a couple of full-backs in on loan we should shoot up the table fairly sharpish.

Should be fairly cheap for the club to get rid of as well if he doesn't work out. Well done to the club for offering a 6 month contract based on performance rather than a cushy long term deal. There should be more of this sort of attitude in football, for players as well as managers.

Hoddle must be used to picking up Dave Jones' pieces by now!
