View Full Version : Watched POTA(2001)
As the subject says...watched this last night. Can someone tell me WTF that ending was all about(using the spoiler thingy of course) my missus wants to know;)
Don't worry about it. Apparently Tim Burton doesn't know either !
Didn't understand it either but I hear this version is closer to the book than the original so if someone out there has read the book perhaps they might be able to explain it to us.

Yes the ending is similar to the original novel, though the rest of the film bears little relation.
Deaks.
I looked at the little post cardy thing that came with it, gave me some sort of starting block for trying to suss it out. It is the thing that explains about all the different things that happened in the magnetic storm thing, who went where and when... check it out. And read the book it kicks ass, read it two months ago, but still didnt help me..:p

Do not know how to do the spoiler thing so be warned
SPOILER

SPOILER
The storm thing has no set amount of time that t can propel the items through time and space.
When the first craft ( the one with the monkey) entered it was thrown forward in time arriving AFTER the 2nd craft ( this is were you see it land safely among the fight )
The 2nd craft was propelled forward in time but not as far as the 1st. For this reason it arrived earlier than the monkey piloted craft and arrives at the planet by crashing into he pool.
The 3rd craft to enter he storm was the space station. This arrived on the planet many many years before the 1st and 2nd. My guess probably about 300 years previous.
The monkeys on the space station were already adavnced ( as said at the start of the film ) and soon get rather annoyed with the way they are treated. They get free, kill the humans and then they EVOLVE.
At the end of the film the nice man leaves the planet and hopes to reurn home. He does so. HOWEVER we are too assume that sometime after he left the planet the craft which was in the pool was retrieved and fixed. This craft was then used by the apes to enter the storm and arrived long before the human did it the 1st craft.
For those who like to plan their tv viewing way in advance, the Sci-Fi Channel will be showing a lengthy documentary on the Planet of the Apes saga. The Documentary will be shown between 1:30 and 4:00 P.M. on January 13th. Followed at 4 PM by the first episode of the tv series which will be shown weekly from then on.

Objects going through the 'time storm' come out in reverse order, with the time difference multiplied.
So the chimp goes in first; the astronaut goes in after him a few minutes later and comes out a few days before him in time, and then the spaceship goes in after both of them months later and comes out way years before both of them.
This works on the way back too, so months later, Thade eventually gets one of the unused pods working, goes through the time storm and emerges years before anyone else.
Having overrun America, Thade had the Lincoln memorial re-sculpted as the ultimate insult to any humans still surviving.
Or something.
