Somebody in my household has troden on my very stretched audio cables coming out of the back of my TV and seems to have pulled the two audio sockets from where they where fixed inside the TV. The connectors are still visible but when you try and attach anything they just push inside the TV.

I was wondering if it safe or feeable for to open the TV case and see if I can easily fix them back on ? The TV is weel out of it's guarantee but I don't want to cause anymore damage.

MAKE SURE IT IS UNPLUGGED FROM THE WALL

then you should be able to just unscrew the back casing and lift away. Make sure the TV is well supported on a large table or something first. The back casing is normally not connected to much except the sockets themselves, which normally remain in place after the case is removed. The only snag you may hit upon is the tube, you will need to remove the case backwards a long way before going upwards (if at all). You may then be able to super glue the sockets back to whatever they were mounted to originally (or extend them internally and then glue them to the back of the casing itself or 'bring them out' as female leads instead etc (may require soldering).

I would also leave it switched off for a while before unplugging it from the wall. TVs have some pretty large capacitors that can take time to discharge.

Thanks for that, may give it a go later.

I might switch if off as soon as I get home from work on Friday and then attempt it Saturday or something then.

The high tension capacitor in a TV can store a VERY high charge, the safest way is to earth it prior to messing about with, strangely enough, an earthing tool..

I can't remember specs of these, maybe try Maplins or similar.

Please be careful, they can mess you up.
